Four Simple Steps to Apply for Graduation
The end is
in sight! If you've earned 90 or more
academic credits, you received a message from the Registrar's Office informing
you that you are eligible to apply for graduation.
However,
eligibility is only the start of the graduation application process. Below are
four simple steps you can take now to ensure that you’ll soon be shaking hands
with Dr. Hrabowski as you receive your UMBC diploma.
Note: Even if you do not plan to attend
the commencement ceremony, you still need to apply to graduate in order to earn
your degree.
Step 1: Apply for
Graduation!
Friday, February
14th is the last day undergraduates can apply for May Graduation.
Only those
students who have every single requirement needed for degree completion on
their spring semester schedules will be permitted to participate in the
Commencement ceremony.
If you are
taking a course at another institution that you plan to transfer, you must have
an approved Verification of
Transferability formon file with
the Registrar’s Office and be prepared to submit a copy of your
schedule.
Step 2:
Embrace your degree audit!
Your degree
audit indicates your progress toward degree completion. If you see
“unsatisfied” items, these are requirements that need to be addressed immediately. Your degree audit is located on your profile in myUMBC, under "Degree."
Makesure
any substitutions or waivers of major requirements are documented in your
degree audit; you may need to submit a Help/RT ticket to
the Registrar’s Office to add these notations to your record.
Step 3:
Wrap up any outstanding details ASAP!
If you have
Advanced Placement or CLEP scores, transfer transcripts, 201 lever language
substitutions, or other items you need to provide to UMBC, delay no
longer! If the major, minor, or
certificate program on your record is out of date, or if you have additional
majors or minors that you need to remove, submit a new Declaration
of Major form. Any of these
items could prevent you from being able to graduate.
Step 4:
Let the celebration begin!
Participating
in the commencement ceremony* and other celebratory activities on campus is the
culmination of all of your hard work. Take time to recognize all it took to get
you to this moment and be proud of your accomplishments!

Shuttle Bus -
THERE IS A WAIT LIST FOR THE BUS BUT YOU MAY STILL REGISTER
FOR THE CONFERENCE AND PROVIDE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION
There will be a free
shuttle bus to transport students to and from the career fair on Friday or on
Saturday. If you will need transportation, be sure to complete the shuttle bus
registration form at the bottom of the registration page: https://careers2.umbc.edu/calendar/fairs/beyabus2020.php.
Please note that the free shuttle bus is available on a first-come, first-serve
basis. In order to serve the most students, you may select only one
day to ride the shuttle. The free shuttle will run only on Friday and Saturday
between 8:15 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Transportation to and from other conference events
(such as the BEYA Gala held Saturday evening) is on your own.

Assists Environmental Literacy and Outdoor Education staff in the needs of the environmental
literacy and outdoor education programs. Work involves supporting program through assisting with
instructional and facility needs and operations. This includes preparation of materials, outdoor
instruction, evening program implementation, participating in staff development activities and helping
with upkeep of educational displays. Work is planned and implemented under the direction of the
Coordinator of Environmental Literacy and Outdoor Education and the professional staff.
Essential Duties &
Responsibilities

1. Instructs and implements lessons as a part of the Environmental Literacy field experience.
2. Assists the Outdoor Education Teacher Specialist and Outdoor Educator with parent in-services.
3. Oversees and conducts evening programs with students.
4. Organizes the set up and break down of necessary equipment and materials needed for
instructional programs and activities.
5. Assists in developing instructional materials and activities for use in the outdoor education
program.
6. Directs and oversees dining hall meal procedures to assure proper meal atmosphere and
behavior.
7. Assists parents and teachers with instructional activities and programs as assigned.
8. Maintains tree nursery and native plant gardens as a part of the environmental and outdoor
education center.
9. Assists with aquaculture maintenance.
10. Assists with upkeep of databases and administrative duties.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
12. Supervision and Guidance Received
13. Works under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Environmental Literacy and Outdoor
Education.
14. Works under the immediate direction and supervision of the Outdoor Educator and/or other
professional staff member.

Education
Associate's degree. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
Preference of course work and/or studies in environmental education, environmental management,
outdoor education, elementary or secondary education, recreation or a related field.

The NIIMBL eXperience

A hands-on opportunity for students to explore biopharmaceutical manufacturing careers
The NIIMBL eXperience is a hands-on, expenses-paid week-long program for college freshmen and sophomores to gain real-world insight into career possibilities in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. This program is open to college students enrolled at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or historically underrepresented minority students at NIIMBL member academic institutions.
Biopharmaceutical products, including therapeutic proteins and cell and gene therapies, save and enhance lives by treating diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, and autoimmune disorders. Through this week-long program, students explore the role biopharmaceutical manufacturers play in getting these vital therapies to patients.
Students will learn about the operations of large biomanufacturers, cutting-edge technologies of small companies, and how federal agencies interact with industry to ensure products are safe for patients.
Your eXperience Week
Through a competitive application process, students are selected to spend a week visiting biopharmaceutical sites around the country for a once-in-a-lifetime education experience. Students will interact with host organizations, network with employees, tour facilities, carry out simulated work activities. In addition to companies, students will also learn about the essential role of federal regulation agencies in biomanufacturing.
Not only does the program provide a deep dive into biopharmaceutical careers, but it also equips students with skills and knowledge that will serve them in any career path they may choose.
All travel expenses and meals are paid in full by NIIMBL. Plus, students will receive a $1,000 stipend.
The 2020 eXperience week is scheduled for June 1 – 5, 2020.

- Undergraduate college students completing their freshman or sophomore year with an interest in STEM, emphasis on HBCUs and underrepresented populations at NIIMBL member institutions
- Must be a demonstrated leader and recommended by a STEM teacher/professor
- Limited students living in the United States
- Commitment to sharing your eXperience broadly on campus and through social media

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform basic laboratory tasks such as:
- Prepare, test, and analyze material for laboratory product development,
- Prepare sterile solutions,

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

SKILLS:

a detailed laboratory notebook.
- Ability to execute and complete test plans and study protocols for laboratory product

- Can perform routine equipment operation, calibration and maintenance on Noxilizer
analytical equipment and test equipment.
- Ability to maintain product inventories and prepare purchase orders for supplies.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory skills: weighing samples, measuring sample volumes,
pipetting aliquots of samples, experience with laboratory instruments and general lab
hygiene.
- Operation of Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read, understand and follow written laboratory procedures.
- Oral and written communication skills to present data and convey information.
