<Title>Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program provides college students with an opportunity to gain and develop research skills with the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy for 10 weeks over the summer. For 20 years, this program has increased awareness of DOE research opportunities to students pursuing STEM degrees (short for science, technology, engineering and math). The goal of the program is to improve opportunities for women and minority students in these fields, however all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.</div><div><br></div><div>Selected candidates will train under the mentorship of program officials and scientists on focused research projects consistent with the mission of the Office of Fossil Energy. Fellows will receive a stipend and some students may be eligible to receive housing and travel allowance for the duration of the program.</div><div><br></div><div>At the conclusion of the program, Fellows are required to attend a "Technical Forum" where they will present their research findings and tour a technical site located nearby.</div><div><br></div><div>Undergraduate students receive a weekly stipend of $600;</div><div>Master’s students receive a weekly stipend of $750;</div><div>Ph.D. students or graduates receive a weekly stipend of $850.</div><div>Some participates may be eligible to receive a housing and travel allowance.</div><div><br></div><div><div><em><span><strong>APPLICATION DEADLINE:</strong> December 30, 2016</span></em></div><div><em><br></em></div><div><div><strong>Read more and apply via UMBCworks:</strong></div><div><ul><li><span>Log in via myUMBC &gt; Topics &gt; Jobs &amp; Internships</span></li><li><span>Make sure you have an approved resume under Documents.     FOUR current UMBC undergraduates an opportunity to apply for a 
    deep immersive    experience in research activities in economics.  The 
    program is designed    for undergraduate students with strong 
    quantitative and analytical backgrounds    of ALL majors. Substantial 
    coursework in not required.</span></p>
    <p><strong><span>Program Elements include:</span></strong></p>
    <ul>
    <li><span>Students will attend 
    workshops given by Booth faculty         as part of the "Economics 
    Undergraduate Research Experience"         beginning the end of June of 
    2016 and extending into July of 2016.          Information about this

<Title>Ending the Semester</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>I’m not sure how time flew by so quickly, but sure enough, the end of the semester is fast approaching. Some of you may have already started stressing about final exams (I know I have), whereas others of you are focused on wrapping up your class assignments (also me). In addition to those classes, though, you may be finishing up your time at your fall internship site. If that’s you, there are some key steps you may want to consider taking as your internship comes to a close.</span></p><div><span>My most recent internship was this past summer at the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office. The week leading up to my last day, the law clerks I was working with kept pulling pranks on me- and all of them had to do with Justin Bieber. </span></div><div><span>The day before my last, they put up a poster of Justin Bieber behind my desk while I was running over to the lab. Other days, I would hear the faint resonance of “Baby” humming in the background. My co-workers had become more than just the people I sat next to every day, and I had no idea how to thank them for the wonderful experience my internship shaped into.</span></div><div><span>If any of you are uncertain of how to play out your final days at your internship, job, or co-op, here are sure suggestions:</span></div><span><ol><li>Write thank you letters. I don’t know about you, but I feel much more valued when I receive a note from someone as opposed to an email. Take the time to write out and deliver thank you cards to the people who played the most important roles at your internship. These can be hand-delivered or mailed.</li><li>Get your boss’s personal email! If you think you may want someone to write you a letter of recommendation or provide a personal reference, make sure to get their personal email as well as their business email. In my case, I know that the email provided to me by the State’s Attorney’s Office was suspended once my internship was over, but I still have a way to contact my co-workers and boss.</li><li>Make connections. Add the people you worked with to your LinkedIn account! </li><li>Follow up! Check in with your bosses a few months down the line. That way, you can remind them of all of your hard work, and make sure you are keeping in contact with them. That’s especially important if you want to ask them for a letter of recommendation. That way, your request isn’t completely out of the blue. </li></ol></span><div><span>Personally, I haven’t checked in with my bosses at my last internship since August. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I think now would be a perfect time to send a quick email thanking them again for the opportunity, and explaining how the experience has helped me in my everyday college life.  </span></div><div><span><br></span></div></span></div>

Now entering its 9th summer, the overall goal is to introduce you to research opportunities, facilitate understanding of recent advances in the STEM disciplines, and mentor you towards graduate and professional careers. As a CLIMB UP Fellow, you will be guided through novel and exciting research projects and mentored by faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows through the summer and beyond. You will spend 10 weeks (May 30-August 4, 2017) in the laboratory of your research mentor, whom you will be paired with based on your interests.     <div class="html-content"><div><strong>Do you have an interest in Becoming a Nonprofit Leader or Social Entrepreneur?<br>Are you ready to intern within a Nonprofit or Social Venture this Spring? </strong></div><div><br></div><div>If yes, apply to the Shattuck Family Internship Program for Entrepreneurship Innovation and Social Change.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The Shattuck Family Internship Program for Entrepreneurship Innovation and Social Change prepares UMBC students for the rigors and rewards of entrepreneurship and social innovation.  This program places highly-motivated students from diverse backgrounds in mentored internships to better prepare them to launch nonprofit or social ventures.  Students get training and experience to empower them to become the next generation of social entrepreneurs–working largely in the not-for-profit world, developing and delivering innovative solutions to some of our region’s most urgent social problems.</div><div><br></div><div>Internships last one semester (15 weeks) and students will work, on average, 8 to 10 hours per week.  Students receive a stipend of $1,500 toward their compensation.  In addition to the internship, students engage in projects and activities that further expose them to the social entrepreneurial mindset.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Why Participate? </strong><br>- Earn a competitive stipend of $1,500 plus an opportunity to potentially earn credit <br>- Gain valuable experience in your career field by interning 120 hours over the course of the semester (8-10 hours per week) <br>- Be exposed to the knowledge, skills, and mindset required to successfully launch and manage a nonprofit/social venture<br>- Develop a network of contacts in the nonprofit community for future references and opportunities <br>- Apply classroom knowledge in a realistic work environment and apply lessons learned in the workplace to academic coursework </div><div><br></div><div><strong>TO APPLY:</strong><br><div>If interested, apply via <a href="http://careers.umbc.edu/umbcworks/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><u>UMBCworks</u></a> by submitting a Resume and a Cover Letter answering the following questions:</div><div>Discuss your interest in both entrepreneurship and this intern program.  What  has been your entrepreneurial involvement thus far such as coursework,  seminars, etc. (if applicable)?  What type of start-up would you like to intern for and why?  </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Credentials can be submitted via <a href="http://careers.umbc.edu/umbcworks/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><u>UMBCworks</u></a> (ideal) or e-mailed to:</strong></div><div>Christine Routzahn, Director of the Career Center</div><div><a rel="nofollow external" class="bo">routzahn@umbc.edu</a></div><div><br></div></div><div><strong>DEADLINE TO APPLY:  Friday, Dec. 2nd</strong></div><div><em>3.00 GPA required </em></div></div>
