<Title>YouthWorks Hiring Job Coaches &amp; Job Coach Managers</Title>
<Tagline>Support Baltimore City Youth this Summer- Great Opportunity</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div><a href="https://moed.baltimorecity.gov/youth-services/summer-jobs" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">YouthWorks</a><span> is
     Baltimore’s summer jobs program, operated by the Mayor's Office of 
    Employment Development, that employs thousands of youth each summer. 
    Typically, youth participating in YouthWorks hold positions within 
    organizations throughout Baltimore. However, due to the COVID-19 
    pandemic and need for social distancing, YouthWorks 2020 will include a 
    learn-to-earn virtual curriculum model. To support Youth and assist them
     in maximizing the summer experience, Job Coaches will assist students 
    in navigating the virtual curriculum. Job Coach Managers will supervise a
     cohort of 10 Job Coaches.</span></div><div><br></div><div>Please note that <strong>these are remote positions.  </strong>The application seems to be very straightforward. <Title>USM COVID Research &amp; Innovation Task Force App Challenge</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span><span><span><em><span>At Least $18,000 in Prizes Available for Innovative App Solutions to COVID-19 Related Problem</span></em></span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span><span>Baltimore, Md. (May 28, 2020) –</span></span><span> The University System of Maryland (USM) COVID Research &amp; Innovation Task Force invites the USM community to help the State of Maryland find solutions to the current health crisis. The task force is launching the USM COVID App Challenge, a competition to develop an innovative app to solve a Maryland COVID-19-related problem.</span></span></span><br><span><span><span><span><span>Cash prizes totaling at least $18,000 will be distributed among USM Student Teams and USM Community Teams, including at least three $3,000 awards for USM Student Teams, made possible with support from the Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship at UMBC. </span></span></span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span>Participants are encouraged to design an app that could serve the following roles, for example:</span></span></span><br><span> </span><ul><li><span><span><span>Support health care workers, first responders, and frontline workers.</span></span></span></li><li><span><span><span>Link small business with key resources.</span></span></span></li><li><span><span><span>Assist educators with online instruction.</span></span></span></li><li><span><span><span>Connect Marylanders with needed services.</span></span></span></li><li><span><span><span>Enable a safe return to work and social interaction.</span></span></span></li><li><span><span><span>Bring Marylanders together to respond to COVID-19.</span></span></span></li></ul><br><span><span><span>“The COVID App Challenge will harness the innovation and talent that’s right within our grasp throughout our system,” said USM Vice Chancellor for Economic Development J. Thomas Sadowski. “This competition will bring forward the energy and intellect to help address the public health crisis in Maryland.”</span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span>Eligible participants in the competition are undergraduates and graduate students; faculty and staff; personnel from USM-affiliated research parks, business incubators, and start-up companies.</span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span><span>Companies providing technical and other resources to participants include Amazon Web Services and IBM, Inc. Participants may leverage the AWS-hosted COVID-19 data lake that is composed of multiple sources of data, in addition to other training, tools, and mentorship. AWS will also offer challenge winners and runners-up AWS Credits to further their development and success. As a USM COVID App Challenge partner, IBM is offering competition participants access to IBM Cloud accounts and COVID-19 Starter Kits, which are quick-start guides to begin creating applications tied to easy-to-understand use cases in just minutes. IBM technical experts will participate throughout the COVID App Challenge as mentors and judges. Following the USM COVID App Challenge, IBM is encouraging participants to enter the Call for Code Global Challenge. Now in its third year, Call for Code is the largest technical challenge of its kind, inviting the world's software developers and innovators to take on society’s biggest issues with open source-powered technology.</span></span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span>Specific details on eligibility, entry guidelines judging criteria, and prizes are available on the </span><a href="https://www.usmd.edu/covid-taskforce/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>task force website</span></a><span>. <strong>Entries can be submitted Monday, June 8 (noon EDT) through Sunday, June 28 (midnight).</strong> Winners will be announced Friday, July 3 (noon EDT).</span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span>The USM recently introduced the website as a </span><span>one-stop portal to share information on systemwide innovations and engage with policymakers, business leaders, and the entrepreneurial community to help find solutions related to the pandemic and bring them to scale.</span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span>Businesses and organizations seeking guidance or the ability to partner with USM institutions on specific initiatives can use the task force website to connect with system experts. The task force is engaging with business and industry to exchange ideas and help the USM move its products and responses into the marketplace.</span></span></span><br><br><span><span><span>USM Chancellor Jay A. <Title>Fraudulent Jobs &amp; Email Scams</Title>

However, scammers are becoming more and more creative, <em><u>especially through direct offer emails.</u></em></span></p><p><span>The Career Center is here to support you. If you encounter a position that you fear may be fraudulent, don’t hesitate to reach out to us </span><a href="mailto:careers@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>careers@umbc.edu</span></a></p><p><strong><span>Below we provide some helpful information to assist you with spotting scams before engaging with them.</span></strong></p><ul><li><p><span>Look at the email domain of the sender (john@gmail vs. john@avalidcompany) Be CAUTIOUS if the domain does not match the domain of the company. <strong>Emails from UMBC will always come from a UMBC email address.</strong></span></p></li><li><p><span>NEVER provide your credit card, bank account numbers, social security number or other financial documentation.</span></p></li><li><p><span>BE CAUTIOUS of an employer offering a check before work has commenced and NEVER deposit a check before work has commenced. This is almost always a scam. </span></p></li><li><p><span>NEVER engage with an employer that requires an initial investment, such as a payment by wire.</span></p></li><li><p><span>BE CAUTIOUS of an employer whose posting includes many spelling and grammatical errors.</span></p></li><li><p><span>BE CAUTIOUS of an employer who asks for anything out of the ordinary such as a picture of you or who is not operating by normal hiring procedures, such as hiring you without interviewing you.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Google the employer’s phone number, fax number and/or email address. If it does not appear connected to an actual business organization, this is a red flag. Better Business Bureau (</span><a href="http://www.bbb.org/us/consumers/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>http://www.bbb.org/us/consumers/</span></a><span>), Hoovers (</span><a href="http://www.hoovers.com/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>http://www.hoovers.com/</span></a><span>) and AT&amp;T’s Anywho (</span><a href="http://www.anywho.com/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>http://www.anywho.com/</span></a><span>) can be used to verify organizations.</span></p></li></ul><p><span><strong>Scammers often use phishing emails. Some key things to note are:</strong></span></p><ul><li><p><span>The FROM address on an email can easily be spoofed/faked. </span><span>Just because an email you receive looks like it came from an </span><span>“@umbc.edu”</span><span> address or someone you know, does not always mean it actually came from that person.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Some people may ask,</span><span>“How does a scammer get my UMBC email address in the first place?”</span><span>Your email address is not private information</span><span>. If someone knows your name, they can look up your UMBC email address in the campus directory, or if you have your email address attached to social media or other online accounts and those get hacked, or if someone you know has had their email hacked, etc.  There are many different ways your email address can end up in the hands of a scammer. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Never click on the links in a phishing message.  Just by clicking on the link, you may download a malicious program onto your computer</span><span>.</span></p></li><li><p><span>For more information from DoIT on phishing, click </span><a href="https://doit.umbc.edu/security/?id=51604" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>HERE</span></a></p></li><li><p><span>Please see the information and recommendations from DoIT at UMBC about online safety and best practices </span><a href="https://doit.umbc.edu/umbc-phishing-and-spam-faqs/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>HERE</span></a><span>. </span><span> </span></p></li></ul><p><span><strong>If you feel that you have already been scammed, there are important steps you should take.</strong></span></p><ul><li><p><span>If you have already given your personal information, you should follow DoIT's recommendations.  You may want to alert the </span><a href="https://police.umbc.edu/about-us/contact-us/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>campus police</span></a><span> about your particular concerns.</span></p></li><li><p><span>***In order to assist the DoIT Security Team's investigation, recipients of the email should send</span><span> <a href="mailto:security@umbc.edu">security@umbc.edu</a></span><span> a notification including the full header set of the message. These headers are not normally displayed but can be easily accessed.     <div class="html-content"><h5><span><em><u>Are these real employers?</u></em></span></h5><h5><em><u>Yes.</u></em></h5><h5><em><u><span>But COULD these jobs be a </span>scam<span>? </span></u></em></h5><h5><strong><u>Yes!</u></strong></h5><div><span><p><span>Scammers have always been around and UMBC’s Career Center works hard to protect and support you. However, in this challenging economic climate, we are seeing scammers get more creative and deceptive. They will often use the names of</span><span> real companies</span><span> and present themselves as being affiliated with UMBC, </span><span>when they are not</span><span>.  </span></p><p><span><u>HERE is one example of a fraudulent email coming from “Corestaff”.  You will notice:</u></span></p><ul><li><p><span>The email domain of the sender goes to a GMAIL account and not to a real company domain such as “corestaff”.</span></p></li><li><p><span>In this email, they are asking for you to email them back with your personal email address. Why?</span></p></li><li><p><span>There is no contact information in the sender’s signature, such as a company phone number, physical address and or website.</span></p></li><li><p><span>What is the job position and why is there no description? The language is very ambiguous throughout this email.</span></p></li><li><p><span>The email message contains poor grammar and typographical errors</span></p></li></ul><div><span><strong><br></strong></span></div><p><span>From: Allison Bae &lt;</span><a href="mailto:allisonrayson199@gmail.com" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>allisonrayson199@gmail.com</span></a><span>&gt;</span></p><p><span>Date: Mon, May 11, 2020, 10:24</span></p><p><span>Subject: UMBC COVID-19 INFORMATION</span></p><p><span>Dear students,</span></p><p><span>University of Maryland, Baltimore County health professionals have been closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19 over the past two months.Therefore the university is organizing an online part time job to sustain the students living.I'm happy to inform you that our reputable company CORESTAFF SERVICES Inc®,is currently running a student empowerment program. KINDLY EMAIL BACK WITH YOUR  PERSONAL EMAIL ADDRESS IF INTERESTED IN THIS JOB POSITION.</span></p><p><span>Kind Regards</span></p><p><span>  Allison Bae</span></p><p><span>  HR Manager/Consultant</span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span><strong><u>How does a scammer get my UMBC email address in the first place?</u></strong></span></p><p><span>Your email address is not private information</span><span>. If someone knows your name, they can look up your UMBC email address in the campus directory, or if you have your email address attached to social media or other online accounts and those get hacked, or if someone you know has had their email hacked, etc.  There are many different ways your email address can end up in the hands of a scammer. </span></p><p><span>The FROM address on an email can easily be spoofed/faked. </span><span>Just because an email you receive looks like it came from an </span><span>“@umbc.edu”</span><span> address or someone you know, does not always mean it actually </span><span>came from that person.</span></p><p><span><u><br></u></span></p><p><span><strong><u>What should I do when I receive an email that is questionable? Here are some quick tips:</u></strong></span></p><ul><li><p><span>Never click on the links in a phishing message.  Just by clicking on the link, you may download a malicious program onto your computer</span><span>.</span></p></li></ul><ul><li><p><span>Look at the email domain of the sender (john@gmail vs. john@avalidcompany) Be CAUTIOUS if the domain does not match the domain of the company.</span></p></li><li><p><span>NEVER provide your credit card, bank account numbers, social security number or other financial documentation.</span></p></li><li><p><span>BE CAUTIOUS of an employer offering a check before work has commenced and NEVER deposit a check before work has commenced. This is almost always a scam. </span></p></li><li><p><span>NEVER engage with an employer that requires an initial investment, such as a payment by wire.</span></p></li><li><p><span>BE CAUTIOUS of an employer whose posting includes many spelling and grammatical errors.</span></p></li><li><p><span>BE CAUTIOUS of an employer who asks for anything out of the ordinary such as a picture of you or who is not operating by normal hiring procedures, such as hiring you without interviewing you.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Google the employer’s phone number, fax number and/or email address. If it does not appear connected to an actual business organization, this is a red flag.
