AMPM and SNPha will be hosting a PCAT/personal statement workshop
next Saturday December 7th from 9:30am-12pm at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in Baltimore, MD. It's a great event to learn about how to study/write from pharmacy students who have already experienced it. There is a parking garage located very close to the campus as well as street parking. Breakfast will be provided. Use this

Bruce Walz Retirement Celebration
Bruce Walz, PhD, Professor in the Department of Emergency Health
Services, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, will be retiring
from UMBC after 32 years of service to the university. Please join us in
celebrating Dr. Walz’s career and thanking him for his contributions to the
UMBC community as he prepares for his retirement:

Dr. Walz has served on the Department
of Emergency Health Services faculty since 1987 in various instructional and
administrative functions, teaching numerous courses in clinical, management,
and graduate subject areas. Most notably, Dr. Walz served as Department Chair
from 1995 to 2016.
Dr. Walz’s service to the university
is notable. He has served as a faculty senator and chair of senate committees.
Additionally, he served on the Academic Planning and Budget Committee (APB) for
10 years, nine as chair. In the position of APB chair, he served as a member of
the President’s Council. During this term, Dr. Walz represented the faculty and
the financial interest of the faculty through such challenging times as the
Great Recession and its impact of the State budget. He has also served on the
recent Middle States Accreditation Steering Committee. He has had impactful
influence on UMBC in his work as co-chair with the Provost on the development
of the university’s current strategic plan.
External to the department and
university, Dr. Walz has made significant contributions to the development of
national curricula and educational standards for emergency medical personnel.
His work to establish an EMS caucus in the US Congress as well as other
national endeavors earned Dr. Walz a University System of Maryland Regent’s
Award for Public Service. His work was recognized by his peers with the
awarding of a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Association of EMS
Educators.
Dr. Walz’s tenure in the Department
holds great meaning to its current and past faculty, as well as many of its successful
alumni. His institutional knowledge has been critical to guiding the Department
forward as it has grown. His contribution to the EHS educational program has
enriched the university, the state and beyond, including international EHS
systems.

GBM Wed 10/30 & Upcoming Events
Good afternoon Pre-Pharmers!
Our next GBM is tomorrow Wed Oct 30th during free hour in PUP 206! We will have a presentation on the different specialties of pharmacy. This is your chance to learn about the different pathways you could choose or possibly explore in the near future. Please come with any questions you may have!
We also have another Moveable Feast this upcoming Sunday Nov 3rd from 12-3pm! We need at least 5 volunteers so please sign up if you have some time to help out the community and are looking for some volunteer hours. There will also be carpooling available so don't worry if you do not have a ride.
Lastly, Mock Interviews are coming up! It will take place on Friday November 8th from 6-8pm in Math and Psych Building room 101. It is an event hosted by the pharmacy students from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in Baltimore. GBM Wed 10/2 & AMPM Mentorship
Hey Pre-Pharmers!
Our next GBM will take place this Wednesday October 2nd during free hour (12-12:50pm) in PUP 206. It will feature a student panel with students from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy where they will talk about their experiences in pharmacy school and answer any questions related to the pharmacy school process/pre-pharm track, etc.
We have our first Moveable Feast volunteering event this Sunday October 6th from 12-3pm. It is a great opportunity for those looking for some service to help out in our community. Please fill out the spreadsheet if you are interested and let me know if you have any questions.
The deadline to the mentorship program is also this Wednesday October 2nd. We encourage you all to sign up as it is extremely helpful for undergrad pre-pharm students. Here is the link:
