Take the Campus Climate Survey

Dear Students,
I am reaching out today to invite you to take the UMBC Campus Climate Survey. Students who complete the survey will have a chance to receive a $25 UMBC Bookstore gift card.
You can access the online survey here. The survey will be open from Thursday, May 2, until Thursday, May 16.
This survey is intended to gather information about sexual and gender-based violence on campus, your knowledge of related policies and resources, and your opinion about how helpful and supportive these resources are. The survey takes 15 to 25 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary. You may choose to skip questions or stop responding at any point.
Content note: This survey asks some questions about personal experiences with sexual and interpersonal violence. Some of the language used in this survey is explicit and direct and may be triggering or uncomfortable for some participants. Information on how to get help, if you need it, appears after the survey and is available now on the
ECR website.
By taking the survey, you play a major role in helping UMBC tailor its sexual violence prevention efforts and to improve campus response. The Office of Equity and Civil Rights will be reviewing the results of this survey and sharing what we learn with the campus community. We will incorporate your feedback to shape our policies and practices to promote a safer, healthier, and more welcoming campus.
All students who participate in the 2024 Campus Climate Survey will be eligible to enter a randomized drawing for one of 10 $25 UMBC Bookstore gift cards. After completing the Campus Climate Survey, you will be prompted to enter your name and contact information in a separate voluntary incentive form in order to be entered into the drawing.
Nothing you report in the survey will be linked to your personal information. Your answers are confidential and will only be reported in terms of groups of students rather than as individuals. Your answers to the Campus Climate Survey are not linked in any way to the incentive drawing survey. You are not required to answer a certain number of questions or report specific experiences to be eligible to participate in the incentive survey.

Register and Vote in the 2024 Maryland Primary Election
Registration deadline is Tuesday, 4/23!
UMBC has a strong tradition of very active participation in state and national elections, with high student turnout. This year, Marylanders will elect a new Senator as well as new state and federal legislators, and will participate in electing the President and Vice President of the United States. The Maryland primary election will take place on May 14, 2024. Between now and then, if you are registered to vote in Maryland, you can cast your vote on the UMBC campus by requesting a mail ballot and depositing the completed ballot in the drop-off box located in the lobby of The Commons.
Register to vote: If you are an eligible Maryland resident, you can use the
state's online portal to register. Maryland's deadline to register to vote in advance of the 2024 primary election is April 23. Whether you live in Maryland or not,
UMBC's voter registration portal can help you take the first steps to register and vote in your home state if you are eligible to do so.
Request a mail ballot, then vote in The Commons: Registered Maryland voters can complete an online request for a mail-in ballot
here. Once you have received and completed your ballot, you can submit it by placing it in the official Board of Elections drop-off box in the lobby of The Commons (near the Campus Information Center desk). No postage is necessary. The Board of Elections will pick up ballots placed in the box multiple times each week.
Make a pledge to vote: Every election year,
ALL IN to Vote hosts a Pledge to Vote leaderboard for university students across the country. UMBC placed #4 in the nation on the leaderboard in 2022.
Take the pledge, and spread the word.
Access Maryland and out-of-state voter resources: Find the latest information, including dates for early voting and deadlines to request mailed and electronic ballots, using the ALL IN to Vote portal hosted on the UMBC Center for Democracy and Civic Life
website.
Serve as election judge: The Baltimore County Board of Elections is
recruiting election judges to work at polling stations during the 2024 primary election. These are paid positions and an important public service.
Participate in civic and community engagement programs: Whether you are eligible to register to vote or not, you have a stake in your communities and can play an important role in shaping them. Follow the Center for Democracy and Civic Life's

Reminder: Student Virtual Parking Permits Now Available!
Activate your virtual permit before classes begin
Dear Students,
UMBC virtual parking permits are now available for all incoming and returning students who do not have an active permit. Students who activated parking permits in the fall do not need to do so again for the spring. Your permit is valid through August 14. We do ask all returning students to visit the
UMBC Parking Portal to verify that the vehicles you will be driving to campus are accurately registered.
New students, please go to the
UMBC Parking Portal, register your vehicle(s), and activate your virtual permit. Your permit must be activated prior to your arrival on campus. (Note: Please do not sign up for a visitor account; UMBC does not issue parking permits for visitors.)
Please note, registering your vehicle is not the same as getting a permit. Once vehicles are registered, please click on the "Get Permit" button. Parking permits expire every August. You may register up to three vehicles. You may only have one vehicle on campus at a time.

USM Regents Student Excellence Scholarships
Application portal open Jan. 16 to Feb. 9
The University System of Maryland Board of Regents and the University System of Maryland Student Council are introducing the Board of Regents Student Excellence Scholarships to recognize exceptionally talented students who are making contributions in various aspects of student life. Each awardee will receive a commemorative stole and a $2,000 scholarship to commemorate their outstanding achievements.
Scholarships will be granted to up to two undergraduate students (one first-year or sophomore and one junior or senior) and up to one graduate student from among the diverse USM student community exhibiting achievements in the following categories: (1) Leadership and Advocacy; (2) Outreach and Engagement; (3) Innovation and Creativity; and (4) Academics, Scholarship, and Research.
Students are responsible for self-nomination, and the deadline to submit an application is February 9. More information on criteria and the selection process is available here.

Reminder to Register For Commencement
Hello graduates!
This is a reminder that the deadline to participate in the Winter Commencement Ceremony is quickly approaching. In-person and virtual participants must register by Monday, November 27. We are not able to extend the deadline if you miss it.
Please register using the unique registration link sent to your UMBC email.
In-Person Participants: Graduates participating
in-person must purchase regalia through the
UMBC Bookstore by
November 27. GradPasses will be released on
December 1.
Virtual Participants: You may upload a photograph for your slide, which will be shown during the ceremony. You will not be required to order a cap and gown.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you
do not wish for your name to appear in the printed and digital
program, you must email
commencement@umbc.edu by Wednesday

Register to Vote in the 2024 National Election
Happy National Voter Registration Day!
Happy National Voter Registration Day! UMBC has a goal of 100% student voter participation and a history of excellent turnout. If you are eligible to do so, please take a few minutes today to register to vote or update your registration using the links below.
The Maryland primary election will take place on May 14, 2024, with early voting available starting May 2, 2024. The last day to register to vote before the primary election is April 23, 2024.

UMBC virtual parking permits are now available for all new and returning students. All students are required to activate a new virtual on-campus parking permit each August. (Note: Please do not sign up for a visitor account; UMBC does not issue parking permits for visitors.)
New Students: Please go to the UMBC Parking Services Portal, register your vehicle(s), and activate your virtual permit.
Returning Students: Please go to the UMBC Parking Services Portal to review your account for any outstanding fines, verify/update your vehicle information, and activate your new virtual permit.
Those who park on campus without a valid permit will be issued a citation.
Registering your vehicle is not the same as getting a permit. Once vehicles are registered, please click on the "Get Permit" button. Parking permits must be renewed every August prior to the start of the new academic year. You may register up to three vehicles. However, you may only have one vehicle on campus at a time. Once you have registered your vehicle, please click on the "Get Permit" button. Failure to complete this step means no permit has been issued to you and as a result, you may be issued a citation.

Student Virtual Parking Permits Now Available!
Activate your virtual permit before classes begin
Dear Students,
UMBC virtual parking permits are now available for all new and returning students. All students are required to activate a new virtual on-campus parking permit each August. (Note: Please do not sign up for a visitor account; UMBC does not issue parking permits for visitors.)
Returning Students: Please go to the
UMBC Parking Services Portal to review your account for any outstanding fines, verify/update your vehicle information, and activate your new virtual permit.
Those who park on campus without a valid permit will be issued a citation.
Registering your vehicle is not the same as getting a permit. Once vehicles are registered, please click on the "Get Permit" button. Parking permits must be renewed every August prior to the start of the new academic year. You may register up to three vehicles. However, you may only have one vehicle on campus at a time. Once you have registered your vehicle, please click on the "Get Permit" button. Failure to complete this step means no permit has been issued to you and as a result, you may be issued a citation.

Student parking permits are assigned as follows:
Zone A (Red): Commuter students
Zone B (Green): Walker Avenue Apartment residents
Zone C (Gold): Residential students
