IU The Department of Gender Studies at Indiana University Bloomington has received authorization for a staged cluster hire for two tenure track positions in Critical Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The first hire will have a starting date in August 2016, and be at either the assistant or associate professor level. The second search will also be at the assistant or associate level and will take place in 2016-2017, as the College budget permits.

In 2006, Indiana University Bloomington’s Department of Gender Studies was the first in the nation to offer a Ph.D. in Gender Studies. We have now graduated eight doctoral students and have 40 presently working toward the degree as well as a robust doctoral minor affiliation comprised of graduate students from across the campus. We also offer an undergraduate major as well as undergraduate and graduate minors in Gender Studies. Current areas of strength in the department include race and ethnicity studies, feminist theory, media studies, cultural studies, sexualities, sexual health, spatial studies of sexuality and gender (including queer rurality and diasporic formations), and studies of science, medicine and technology. The Department of Gender Studies maintains strong ties with other campus units at Indiana University including: The Kinsey Institute; the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity; the School of Public Health; the newly formed School of Global and International Studies; and the newly formed Indiana University Media School.

The department is in the midst of a dynamic period of growth and innovation, and full participation in the development of our department will be essential. Applicants must hold a doctorate by the time of the appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research and publication profile. Teaching responsibilities include both the undergraduate and graduate core and elective courses and advising student research at all levels, including direction of doctoral dissertations.
