<Title>CFP: Culture, Language, and Social Practice  - V Conference</Title>

    <strong>Culture, Language, and Social Practice (CLASP) V Conference<br></strong>September 15-17, 2017<br>Boulder, CO<br><br>CLASP V is the fifth multidisciplinary conference run by graduate students that promotes the broad connections between culture, language, and society grounded in empirical research. We hope to once again bring together an array of national and international scholars from diverse countries and sub-disciplines for the CLASP V conference this year in Boulder, CO.<br><br>The conference is open to students and faculty who are interested in language, social practice, and interdisciplinary study. Abstracts for papers covering topics in various areas of sociocultural linguistics are invited and are due by June 15th, 2017. Examples of possible frameworks or analytic traditions may include, but are not limited to:<br><br>Sociolinguistics<br>Linguistic anthropology<br>Narrative studies<br>Critical discourse analysis<br>Conversation analysis<br>Language and identity<br>Discourse pragmatics<br>Computer-mediated discourse<br>Ethnography of speaking<br>Language and literacy<br>Verbal art and performance<br>Bilingualism and code-switching<br>Second language acquisition<br>Language and globalization<br>Intercultural communication<br>Language socialization<br>Interactional linguistics<br>Conference Details:<br><br>The conference will take place on September 15-17, 2017 at the University of Colorado Boulder. Our confirmed speakers are:<br><br><em>Dwanna Robertson</em> (Race, Ethnicity and Migration Studies, Colorado College)<br><em>Jonathan Rosa</em> (Education, Stanford University)<br><em>Natasha Shrikant (</em>Communication, University of Colorado–Boulder)<br><em>Jack Sidnell </em>(Anthropology, University of Toronto)<br><br><strong>Submission Guidelines</strong><br><br>Please email an abstract of up to 500 words to <a href="mailto:clasp.abstracts@gmail.com">clasp.abstracts@gmail.com</a> by June 15th, 2017. The conference will include a paper competition for graduate students (see details below). The abstract should be attached in Microsoft Word (.doc) or PDF format and should contain NO information identifying the author(s) of the paper. Abstracts are evaluated on an anonymous basis. In the body of the email, please include the following information:<br><ul>
    <li>Name(s) of author(s)</li>
    <li>University or other affiliation(s) of the author(s)</li>
    <li>Email address(es) of the author(s)</li>
    <li>Title of proposed paper</li>
    <li>3-5 keywords describing the paper</li>
    <li>Presentation equipment requirements</li>
    <li>Any additional comments</li>
    </ul>
    <em><u>Best Graduate Student Paper in Culture, Language, and Social Practice</u></em><br><br>The winner of this competition will have their name mentioned in the official conference program and will be offered a student plenary spot at the conference. This student plenary will be approximately 45 minutes and will provide an opportunity for the winner to share their research in more depth than a typical presentation slot. Note however that the plenary spot is a potential honor and depends on the quality of submissions received.<br><br>To be considered in the competition for the student plenary, authors (graduate students only) should submit a paper of up to 8,000 words plus references. Your submission email should indicate whether you would like to be considered for a regular conference presentation if you do not win the plenary spot.<br><br>Please email your (up to) 8,000 word-paper to <a href="mailto:clasp.abstracts@gmail.com">clasp.abstracts@gmail.com</a> by June 15th, 2017.
