Revision to Spring 2016 Schedule

Hi All,

Dr. Tyson King-Meadows is looking for individuals to volunteer for one day to help out with his research. What they are looking for:

Casting Call- Models

●      6-7 Adult Males (ages 18 +), 6-7 Adult Females (ages 18+)

○      mix of Caucasian, African American, and Asian to portray professionals

○      Will need to provide own clothes (Neckties and suit jacket)

●      7 - 10 young adults - men and women - Prefer first year college students

○      Mix of Caucasian and African American

○      Need to appear high school - college student range

No modeling experience required or necessary.

Must be available on Wednesday, 11/18, in the morning (likely starting at 9:00am) for two hours.

Candy will be provided for compensation.

• MA in Teaching English or other languages as a Second/Foreign language, or MA in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or similar with a focus on teaching languages.
• Documented training or experience as Trainer of Trainers or Trainer of Language Teachers.
• At least five years experience teaching English or a foreign language to speakers of other languages in a variety of contexts, at a variety of levels, at least two years of which are overseas.
• Experience evaluating language learning programs and making data-informed program recommendations.
• Experience designing, editing or reviewing language teaching materials.
• Experience and comfort working and communicating interculturally in low-resource international development contexts.
• Experience managing language teaching or language teacher development projects or programs.
• Experience designing and facilitating online professional development for language instructors.
• Experience developing curriculum for language teaching and language teacher training programs.
• Experience managing online social networks.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially for document design and collaborative editing, data collection and analysis, and presentations.

The Intercultural Communication Masters Program invites to the panel discussion “Activist movements for progressive alternatives”

Congratulations to Shariece Johnson, a PhD student in the health track, who received an Excellence in Program Planning Award at the 2015 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. She was the program chair for the Community Health Planning and Policy Development section of APHA.

UMBC President Dr. Freeman Hrabowski was the keynote speaker at the APHA meeting. See the video of his speech here.

Public Policy PhD student Justin Vélez-Hagan has written an introductory economics book that offers easy-to-understand language and a humorous tone. The book, "The Common Sense behind Basic Economics: A guide for budding economists, students, and voters" (Lexington Books, 2015) is intended to educate the public on the importance of understanding the basics of economics before participating in upcoming elections.
