Jodi Crandall Fellowship for Research in LLC
Don't miss this opportunity! The deadline is February 1st
The Jodi Crandall Fellowship Award provides support for collaborative, interdisciplinary research by current LLC doctoral students who are working in teams that can include any of the following collaborators: other LLC students, LLC regular or affiliate faculty, and LLC graduates.
Applicants will submit a one-page proposal that will be considered by the Crandall Fund Advisory Board, selected by and including the LLC Director. The proposal should include a description of the project and its relevance to LLC, along with a short budget justification detailing how funds will be used.
Grant recipients will be expected to disseminate their work through avenues such as formal or informal talks on campus and in the community, a presence on the LLC website, publication (paper or online), and/or ongoing online updates.
Deadline: February 1st, 2015
Announcement of Awards: Awards announced during the spring 2015 semester.
Award Amounts: There is no set amount for the award, and no set number of grants. We will award a total of $1,000 to cover the requests of all of the applications that are evaluated as being outstanding. Any undistributed funds will roll over to the next year, and applicants can reapply.
This award can be used to support items including but not limited to: fieldwork, archival materials, research travel, equipment purchase, etc. We want the award to support LLC research. Awardees will have one year to use all funds.
Requirements: Submit a one-page application listing all student/faculty members involved in the project, their affiliation with LLC, and, for applicants, your current status in the program and progress toward degree completion.

"The freeway sound wall may be as overlooked as it is ubiquitous. Lining interstates and highways and freeways across the United States, these concrete and cinderblock structures are a blur in the peripheral vision of our automotive world."
"To give readers an opportunity to better understand the constraints under which freeway sound walls are designed, re:form has commissioned artist Gary Kachadourian to create a cut-and-fold paper sculpture of a sound wall, inspired by Southern California freeways, that can be printed out on letter-size paper and constructed into customizable models.

School of interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences
The
University of Washington | Bothell has posted two positions in the undergraduate Interactive Media and Design (IMD) program that might be of interest. Bothell is the fastest-growing campus of the University of Washington and is located about 30 minutes outside the city.
Please find complete information about the two positions in the links below. One is a hybrid teaching and administrative post to lead studio practicum courses in the cohort-based degree. The other is a joint appointment in either STEM or Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, which will include teaching several courses per year in IMD, shaping and overseeing that program, as well as teaching in IAS / STEM depending on the candidate's area.

ISLS 2015 Founders' Emergent Scholars Award
Attention recent LLC Graduates!!!
This award is intended to promote critical language scholarship and to recognize and advance the academic work of emergent scholars who have completed their doctoral dissertations within the past five years and are entering into the community of scholars. It honors the efforts of the founding members of the International Society for Language Studies (ISLS) who established the first international society dedicated to critical scholarship in language studies. In particular, it recognizes research that addresses neglected populations, focuses on little-studied research sites, offers new perspectives, and/or uses innovative methods. The award is granted once a year. Previous applicants are welcome to reapply. We encourage all applicants to join the ISLS, but membership is not required for nomination. The winner is expected to become an ISLS member.
The award includes an opportunity for awardees to publish an article in the society’s journal, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies (CILS) or in their Readings in Language Studies book series. Awardees will be recognized at the society?s biennial conference and will have a portion of their travel expenses to the conference covered.
The application deadline is March 1, 2015

Apply for a Dresher Center Residential Faculty Fellowship
Call for Proposals for Spring 2016 (due May 1, 2015)
The Dresher Center for the Humanities invites applications for two Residential Faculty Research Fellowships for spring 2016. Funding is intended to support and promote significant humanities research at UMBC. The Dresher Center welcomes proposals from all full-time, tenured and tenure-track faculty members pursuing humanities research in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Applications are especially encouraged from, but not limited to, full-time faculty with appointments in departments and programs with a humanities focus. Two fellowships are available. Proposals will be reviewed by the Dresher Center Advisory Board, with decisions by mid-July 2014.
Dresher Center Residential Research Fellows will receive release from teaching (up to two course releases) in order to work on a significant humanities research project or the training necessary to embark on such a project. Faculty wishing to develop expertise in a new field or discipline towards a future project are also encouraged to apply. Each fellow will have the use of a private office in the Dresher Center and will be awarded $500 to hire an undergraduate research assistant (junior or senior) for the semester.
During spring 2016, fellows will reside at least one day per week in the Center, conduct two works-in-progress talks (CURRENTS and Fellows and Others), and participate actively in Dresher Center programs. Upon completion of their fellowship, fellows will serve a two-year term on the Dresher Center advisory board.
