James P. Howard, II, PhD 2014, has announced that his new book, Computational Methods for Numerical Analysis with R, was published by Chapman & Hall/CRC Press, June 2017.

It's an introduction to solving mathematical programs with computers, specifically using the R statistical language.

James is the lead data scientist at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.

Attention LLC Students:

LLC 680, Theories of Feminism, has just been added to our course offerings for Fall 2017. 

Dr. Mejdulene Shomali, Assistant Professor, Gender + Women’s Studies, will be teaching the course on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. in Fine Arts, Room 424.

This course examines the major theories of feminism through the study of works by central feminist thinkers considered in their social, historical and intellectual contexts. Such topics as reproduction and sexuality; the sexual division of labor; political rights; identity and subjectivity; and the intersection of class, race, nation, sexual orientation and gender will be explored from the dominant theoretical perspectives of feminism.

• be in good academic standing;
• provide a letter of support from the Chair of the Dissertation Committee that
  1. describes the state of the dissertation and the probable impact of receipt of the Fellowship on the progress toward     completion; and,
  2. verifies that no UMBC-administered financial support is available for the student;
• provide, if employed outside the university, written evidence from the student’s employer indicating the employer’s willingness to reduce job time and duties in order for the student to participate in the Fellowship;
• submit a dissertation abstract of no more than two pages in length; and
• submit a 1-2 page management plan signed by the Chair of the Dissertation Committee describing the status of the dissertation work, the steps required to complete the work, and the feasible time line for completion; and
• Identify, if a prior recipient of a Dissertation Fellowship, the prior term (e.g., Spring 2016) in which the Fellowship as received.
