    for the second in a series of compelling discussions on education history and
    policy, hosted and moderated by Tomashi Jackson and Nia K. Evans. The first

    Ujima Project. The Boston Ujima Project is a democratic, member-run organization
    building a cooperative business, arts, and investment ecosystem, with the
    mission of returning wealth to working-class communities of color.</p><p><strong>Saturday, November 22, 1–4 p.m.</strong><strong> <br></strong><strong>"Talk/Draw" drawing and discussion session with Nia K. Evans, Tomashi
    Jackson, and Eric N. Mack. DJ: M'Balou Camara</strong></p><p>Join
    a discussion on investment and disinvestment in the arts and humanities as
    reflections of broader civic and economic structures with invited guests.
    Participants will be invited to draw in response to the conversation, and leave
    their drawings on exhibit in the gallery.</p><p>This program is presented in connection with

<Title>Deadline October 22: Tabb Center Public Humanities Fellowship</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Are you a Baltimore-based organizer, artist, cultural worker or public historian interested in researching and creatively reinterpreting archiving materials?</div><div><br></div><div>The Tabb Center will accept applications for their public humanities fellowship with an application date of October 22, 2024.     <div class="html-content"><div><h1>MAN, IMAGE, IDEA: </h1><h1>PHOTOGRAPHS OF MEN FROM </h1><h1>THE MARK RICE COLLECTION</h1></div><strong><div><strong>August 30 – December 12</strong><br><strong>Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery</strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><span>The Mark Rice Collection is comprised of more than 80 photographs constituting part of the history of gay male photography produced after the Stonewall Rebellion of 1969, a significant historical event that fostered the visibility and optimistic development of a gay male subculture during the 1970s and early 1980s. Sadly, that carefree optimism turned to a melancholic introspection with the devastating onslaught of HIV/AIDS from the mid-to-late 1980s through the 1990s. Most of the photographs from the collection date to this latter decade and will be considered in this historical context.</span></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><span>The exhibition is curated James Smalls, Professor of Visual Arts at UMBC. His research and publications focus on the intersections of race, gender, and queer sexuality in modern and contemporary visual culture. He is the author of </span><em>Homosexuality in Art</em><span> (2003) and </span><em>The Homoerotic Photography of Carl Van Vechten</em><span> (2006).     <div class="html-content"><br><h4>14th International Conference New Directions in the Humanities</h4><p>University of Illinois at Chicago<br>Chicago, USA<br>8-11 June 2016<br></p><br>Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, posters, or colloquia are invited for the Fourteenth International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities. Proposals are invited that address the humanities through one of the following categories:<br><br><ul><li>Theme 1: Critical Cultural Studies</li><li>Theme 2: Communications and Linguistics Studies</li><li>Theme 3: Civic, Political, and Community Studies</li><li>Theme 4: Literary Humanities</li><li>Theme 5: Humanities Education</li></ul><br><em>2016 SPECIAL FOCUS: 'Nature at the Crossroads: New Directions for the Humanities in the Age of the Anthropocene'</em><br><br><strong>Virtual Presentations</strong><br><br>If you are unable to attend the conference in person, you may present in a Virtual Poster session or a Virtual Lightning Talk. Virtual sessions enable participants to present work to a body of peers and to engage with colleagues from afar. As a virtual participant, presenters are scheduled in the formal program, have access to select conference content, can submit an article for peer review and possible publication, may upload an online presentation, and can enjoy Annual Membership to the community and subscriber access to the New Directions in the Humanities Collection.<br><br><strong>New Directions in the Humanities Collection</strong><br><br>All presenters are invited to submit written articles for publication to the fully refereed New Directions in the Humanities Collection. Articles may be submitted by in-person and virtual participants as well as community members.<br><br><strong>SUBMISSION DEADLINE<br></strong><br>The current review period closing date for the latest round of submissions to the Call for Papers (a title and short abstract) is <strong>11 September 2015</strong>.
