Join artist Tomashi Jackson and policy analyst/economic advocate Nia Evans for the next in a series of public conversations about support for the visual arts and humanities on April 8th at 5:30 pm. Spaces are limited and registration is required.

Organized by the Center for Art, Design, and Visual Culture at UMBC (CADVC), this conversation focuses on structures of cultural support. Live guests will include Ryan Patterson, Nick Hartigan, and Denise Griffin Johnson, with remote moderation from Tomashi Jackson and Nia Evans. The panel discussion is a part of Tomashi Jackson and Nia Evans's “Pedagogy Study Hall,” a research project featuring an intermedia series of public discussions about investment and disinvestment in the arts and humanities. Assistant Professor Gary Rozanc was awarded funding from the prestigious AIGA DEC Design Faculty Research Grant program. Professor Rozanc’s grant project is “Web Designer Competencies Inventory and Recommendations for Inclusion in Design Curricula.”

His research will help identify and validate sets of core competencies that need to be effectively taught to students preparing to pursue careers as interaction and user experience designers. He will interview a select group of interaction design educators and professionals to determine, contextualize and prioritize these competencies.

Gary Rozanc is an Assistant Professor in the Graphic Design emphasis, in the Department of Visual Arts.
