Pedagogy Pop Up -- the Latest Issue of TextShop Experiments

LLC Alumni, Kevin Wisniewski '18 and Felix Burgos '18, began the open access online journal, TextShop Experiments, while still doctoral students. They have now published their 8th issue, organized
and guest-edited by Mari Ramler (Tennessee Tech) and Dan Frank (UC Santa
Barbara). This Pop Up celebrates the hard work, creativity, flexibility
and heart of instructors, administrators and students during the spring
2020 semester (and beyond).

Conversation about Michelle Obama and the FLOTUS Effect
Book Release Party and Panel Discussion on February 27th
Join Drs. Kimberly Moffitt (LLC) and Heather Harris (Stevenson University) to celebrate the release of their co-edited volume, Michelle Obama and the FLOTUS Effect, along with contributors Sherella Cupid (LLC cohort 18), Shawntay Stocks (LLC PhD ‘19), Tahira Mahdi (PSY PhD ‘18), and Leticia D. Williams (Howard University PhD). This event will be moderated by Sonya Crosby (LLC cohort 20).
Their book emphasizes the significance of Michelle Obamain relation to her politics and positionality as the first African American woman to serve as First Lady of the United States of America.
Panelists will:
Reflect on their chapters
Offer insights about her evolving legacy
Provide motivations for their involvement
Describe the publishing process
Discuss collaborative research projects
Q & A session to follow.

American Journal of Education (AJE) seeks
Student Board Member applications
The American Journal of Education (AJE) is seeking doctoral and master's student applicants for the AJE Student Board. AJE is a core journal in the field of education that covers a broad spectrum of education research, and has been edited by Penn State faculty since 2003.
AJE's Student Board provides an exciting opportunity for graduate students to publish original pieces of writing, learn more about reviewing and publishing in the field of education, and form relationships with senior scholars.
Student Board members run the
AJE Forum website, an online publication that complements and extends the print edition of AJE.

Vega: Digital Publishing Platform For Scholarship

This presentation will highlight a new publishing project in the works: Vega, an academic publishing platform supported by the
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Building on 15 years as editor of
Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy, Dr. Ball will discuss how publishing multimedia scholarship requires different kinds of infrastructure than scholars, editors, and publishers are used to with print-based publishing. Vega incorporates newer publishing processes, such as collaborative authoring, open peer review, and design editing, as well as newer products, such as media-rich articles and data sets.
Ball will talk about the opportunities and challenges of composing, editing, publishing, and evaluating scholarship in the 21st century, primarily when it takes nontraditional, digital forms.
Cheryl E. Ball is Associate Professor of Digital Publishing Studies at West Virginia University. She teaches classes in editing, multimedia authoring, and digital publishing and teaches occasional seminars on academic literacies at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
