Come learn to play the game and make new friends!
Saturday, September 9, 2017 · 9 AM - 3 PM
UMBC's Club Ultimate Frisbee teams, Shazam, Booya, and Tembo, are hosting our first hat tournament for UMBC students.***** ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS ARE WELCOME!! *****
This will be a fun day of playing our favorite sport, getting to know new people, and hopefully learning something new! This event will only be open to current UMBC students until the week before the event - we will reassess numbers and decide if we will open it to others.
Please RSVP to the Facebook event on the UMBC Shazam Ultimate page and fill out the registration form. RSVPing to this event does not put you on a team - you must fill out the registration form and pay before the due date.
What if don't know how to play ultimate frisbee?!?
That's OK!!!! This event is focused on having fun and learning the sport. We will be holding a mini "practice" session from 9-10 on the turf. Come stop by to learn some throwing skills, basic concepts of offense and defense, and the rules. This will be led by the captains of the 3 teams and there will be many other players there to help out. There will also be some players on your hat team that you'll be able to ask questions and learn from all day.
How much does it cost?
This event will cost only $5 for current UMBC students that register and pay by Thursday Sept 6th at 11:59 pm. Walk ups players will be accepted if spots are available for $7. If there is room for non-UMBC students, the non-UMBC student fee is $10.
What is a hat tournament?
Ultimate frisbee hat tournaments happen quite often. When players register, they enter their gender, experience, and athletism. Equal and fair co-ed teams are then created from the responses. Therefore, the teams are "random", but fair. One fun thing about them is you can "baggage" with one other registered person to ensure that you are on the same team. Make sure you both put each other's names on the registration form! Those who have been to a hat tournament before - this will probably be less competitive and more developmental than what you're used to.
What should I bring?
Bring a light shirt and a dark shirt (NOT GRAY). We will play light vs dark shirts. Bring plenty of water (we will have water coolers), some snacks to last you til 3pm, sneakers or cleats if you have them, and sunscreen.
Schedule of the day?
