My primary responsibilities revolve around utilizing data analytics and data visualization tools to support various departments within the company. Here's a more detailed breakdown:<br><br>Ad Hoc Reporting: I am tasked with handling a wide range of ad hoc requests from different departments in the organization. These requests span various data-related queries and information needs. My role involves quickly understanding the unique requirements of each request and curating customized reports and dashboards to provide actionable insights.<br>Data Visualization: I work extensively with various data visualization tools integrated with the Learning Management System (LMS). This involves using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or other specialized software to transform raw data into clear and interactive visualizations. These visualizations are designed to facilitate data-driven decision-making and enable stakeholders to easily interpret and derive value from the data.<br>Quantitative Analysis: In addition to creating reports and dashboards, I have extended my skill set to include quantitative analysis. This involves delving deeper into the data to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights. I use statistical and analytical techniques to extract meaningful information from the data and present it in a clear and comprehensible manner.<br>Report Maintenance: I take on the responsibility of maintaining and updating existing reports and dashboards. By aligning reports and dashboards with their preferences, I ensure that the data presented is tailored to address their unique objectives. This customization enhances the effectiveness of our data-driven decision-making process.<br>Monthly Reporting System: I have established a structured monthly reporting system using Power BI. This passion is fueled not only by the tasks at hand but also by the incredible people I have the privilege of working with. The collaborative spirit within the Digital Learning Solutions Department and across various departments in the organization has been a constant source of inspiration. It's a wonderful feeling to be part of a team that values knowledge sharing, creativity, and innovation.<br><br>What truly drives me in my role is the commitment to continuous learning and exploration. I firmly believe that in the ever-evolving landscape of data analytics and digital learning, staying at the forefront requires a steadfast commitment to learning and adapting. Whether it's mastering a new data visualization technique, diving into the intricacies of statistical analysis, or exploring the latest developments in the field, every opportunity to learn is an opportunity to excel.<br><br>The beauty of this commitment is that it doesn't just benefit me individually; it directly contributes to the value I can bring to the organization. By staying current with emerging trends and technologies, I can introduce innovative solutions, streamline processes, and enhance the quality of insights we deliver. It's a win-win situation where personal growth aligns perfectly with the growth and success of the company.<br><br>In essence, my work isn't just a job; it's a journey of continuous learning and exploration, shared with a remarkable team. This journey not only allows me to contribute effectively to the organization but also brings me immense satisfaction and joy in the process.<br><br><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong><br>Through my work in the Digital Learning Solutions Department, I've had the privilege of driving data-driven decision-making within our organization, with a strong emphasis on saving time for those who may not have data expertise but require essential insights for decision-making and marketing. By responding to ad hoc data requests, crafting user-friendly reports and dashboards, and delving into quantitative analysis, I've played a pivotal role in enhancing efficiency and facilitating strategic insights. Customizing reports to align with stakeholders' unique needs and establishing a structured monthly reporting system have been cornerstones of my impact, making the communication of data needs more efficient and accessible to all. My contribution extends beyond our department, fostering a culture of data accountability and instilling a broader appreciation for the power of data in driving organizational success.<br><br><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong><br>I would say talk to as many people as you can, get your resume reviewed from people, and don't give up, as no efforts go to waste.<br><strong><br>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong><br><div>The Career Center has been an invaluable resource on my professional journey. This includes participating in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting activities. I had the opportunity to contribute to the development of project plans, create project schedules, and monitor project progress, ensuring that tasks are completed within established timelines and budgets.<br><br>Additionally, I collaborated with various stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and internal teams, to facilitate effective communication and maintain positive working relationships. I assisted in the procurement process by coordinating the selection and acquisition of materials, equipment, and services needed for projects.<br><br>During the construction phase, it involved on-site activities, conducting inspections, and monitoring the quality of work to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.<br><br>Throughout my internship, I had the opportunity to learn and apply project management methodologies, tools, and techniques in a practical setting. I received guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals, allowing me to develop project management skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of the construction project lifecycle.<br><br>By the end of my internship at Miller Construction Services, I gained practical experience in project management within the construction industry, enhanced organizational and communication skills, and developed a strong foundation for a successful career in this field.<br><br><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong><br>I got this opportunity through the UMBC Career Center's Career Fair Spring 2023. I had researched the organizations that were attending the Career Fair and also the roles I was targeting. Before the career fair, I took the guidance and mentorship by the experienced staff members at the UMBC Career Center where I tailored my resume as per the internship I was applying to. I also worked on my elevator pitch, which is very important when you are attending a career fair. Through my research about the organization and preparation, I pitched myself to one of the senior project managers who was representing Miller Construction Services at the Career Fair. After a great conversation, he said he will be setting up an interview for me. I used the Big Interview provided by UMBC Career Center, and that's how I grabbed this opportunity!<br><br><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong><br>UMBC Career Center, Career Fairs<br><br><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong><br>The role has pushed me and brought out the best out of me. Every day, I have faced new challenges and after brainstorming, debate, and deliberation, finding a solution to that challenge is what I have enjoyed the most. The most amazing part of being a project manager is that I need to have the ability and skills to think about all the dimensions related to the project, which I think is very challenging. Also the organization is an amazing place to work, the team has been very supportive to me, and I was always taken care of whenever I needed assistance and guidance. I also enjoyed the weekly cook off where all the team members cooked and brought food for the entire team of Miller Construction Services. We had a great time over lunch.<br><strong><br>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong><br>Through all the challenges I faced, I always made sure I came out of the challenge with an effective and optimized solution. I also had a never-ending curiosity to learn, which helped me learn a number of project management skills through collaboration with the project management experts at Miller Construction Services. This helped me do the work without compromising on the quality. Throughout my internship, I worked on more than 20+ projects worth more than 1 million dollars. Through my effective communication, collaboration, attention to details, critical thinking, and applying the project management methodologies, I assisted in these successful projects and created an impact.<br><br><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong><br>I would definitely like to suggest to all the students to take advantage of the resources available provided by UMBC Career Center. These resources are highly valuable and definitely help a lot. They make the journey of ending up with an internship/job easy. As mentioned before, there are great opportunities at the UMBC Career Fairs/employers events. You just need preparation and the right approach, and anyone can definitely end up with a number of opportunities.<br><br><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong><br><div>I have had an incredible experience working with the UMBC Career Fair. The staff members provide great insights about your application approach, fine tune your application documents like your resume and cover letter, help you prepare elevator pitch, and lastly help you ace the interview. I am glad that I got the right guidance and mentorship from the UMBC Career Center to find this role.</div>

I am finally getting the chance to practice and apply the theories and strategies I've collected and learned over the years.<br><strong><br>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong><br>I definitely have an acute knowledge of and fluency in technology, especially in terms of having access to a breadth of resources, experience in design, and an eye for formatting. I believe I've made an impact through my technological contributions to my mentor's classroom. I've introduced several different ways to assess students electronically, and have formatted digital assessments and rubrics that my mentor has adopted for future lessons.<br><strong><br>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong><br>My advice for students who wish to pursue a Student Teaching Internship is two-fold.<br><br>(1) Let this be your opportunity to try as many things as you can. Let every day be a chance for you to try that new strategy you learned about or implement a unique kind of assessment. Try, try, try!<br><br>(2) Take all the feedback you can get, especially in Phase 1. Find it in your heart to want to be (constructively) criticized. Your mentor and supervisors are there to guide you and offer you the wisdom and expertise they've gathered over the years. Use them! There is always room for improvement. Make those mistakes, own them, and learn from them. You'll be all the better for it.<br><br><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong><br><div>Participating in this internship process has shown me that I'm more capable than I initially thought. Being an intern pushed me to work hard and to further develop my craft. Being on the field like this, surrounded by amazing supervisors and my mentor, has further affirmed my desire to teach. I wouldn't have changed this experience for the world.</div>

<div>With the backing of my supervisor, I successfully formulated and presented to the UMBC Career Center team a functional framework outlining the migration of the entire MTIP workflow to Airtable. This proposed shift is expected to yield significant benefits, including time savings and the alleviation of laborious efforts associated with handling extensive data. In the current Fall term, I've made substantial progress in implementing this transition, leading to a more streamlined experience for everyone engaged in the MTIP process.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
<div>For those delving into on-campus, internship, or full-time opportunities, I strongly recommend maintaining an open, alert, and prepared mindset. Often, valuable resources like the Career Center's resume review, job postings on Handshake, and the MTIP website are overlooked. These channels, along with career fairs, can serve as unexpected gateways to potential opportunities.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>My own experiences during the fall career fair at UMBC underscore the significance of staying receptive. As an international student seeking CPT/OPT accepting employers, the Career Center's career fair directory became an indispensable tool in creating a personalized list of prospective employers. This allowed me to systematically approach each employer on my list. Subsequently, I expanded my interactions to engage with other employers in my field, refining my elevator pitch and gaining insights into their organizations.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>This proactive approach yielded tangible results as I secured two interview calls. One came from a prominent pharmaceutical company that actively welcomes international students, while the other, although typically not open to international candidates, made exceptions in my case.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong></div>
<div>Building upon the philosophy of 'Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water,' this mindset has been instrumental in fostering adaptability and a flexible approach to challenges. In the ever-evolving landscape of my internship, much like water taking the shape of its container, I've embraced a dynamic and open-minded perspective.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>Through this internship, I've had the opportunity to expand my professional network significantly. The guidance provided by the Career Center staff has played a crucial role in overcoming my communications and confidence shortcomings. Their support has been transformative, enabling me to navigate not only the technical aspects of the internship but also the interpersonal and communication challenges that often accompany professional growth.</div>

    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities:</strong></div>
<div>For the 2023-24 school year I am interning with the US Geological Survey through Virtual Student Federal Service.  I have been researching the ecology and geography of National Parks to be shown on the USGS website.  I just recently finished my first write-up on New River Gorge National Park and Preserve and am now beginning Catoctin Mountain Park.  Since the internship is completely virtual, I check in with a mentor every week, who guides me through the writing and research process. </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong></div>
<div>I had heard about VSFS through social media and applied over the summer to one of their internships.  There were so many to choose from-lots of opportunities! </div>
    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
<div><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong></div>
    <div>LinkedIn or other social media</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong></div>
<div>I get to research the places I want to travel to and obtain college credit at the same time. </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></div>
<div>I hope to educate folks on the little parts of National Parks that go unnoticed, like flora, fauna, rocks, minerals, etc. </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
<div>A virtual internship gives you great experiences while still allowing you to focus mainly on your school work.  Do not overlook a virtual internship just because it’s virtual.</div>

<strong>Location of the Organization (City, State): </strong>Jessup, Maryland</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Title of position:</strong> Product Engineering Intern</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities: </strong></div>
<div>The way of working defines the future of the organization and with the pace of change in technology, this has become an imperative part of any organization. </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>My role at BAC helped me deep dive into SharePoint document-sharing practices that can change the outlook of document-sharing practices across the organization. Collaborating with suppliers and protecting intellectual property is one of the major challenges organizations face. But, after a lot of user interviews and brainstorming, we focused on redefining the structure, refining the sharing practices, and preparing the work instructions. With 3 successful pilot sites and 3 additional sites, we ended the project with flying colors ahead of schedule. The name of the project, "Aurora," did justice to the dawn of a new way of working and collaboration amongst 14 engineering teams and 27 product teams.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>Day to day activity: My usual day consisted of a lot of meetings to gather requirements and feedback from the users. Researching SharePoint best practices and prioritizing the needs and wants of the users following MoSCoW and other prioritization techniques comprised the rest of time.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong></div>
<div>I will break down the process of obtaining a position into 3 categories.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Resume Preparation: </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>I started applying for summer internships in September 2022 one month after landing in the US but I started updating my resume in the first week here in the US. I got my resume reviewed by the UMBC Career Center, professionals in the industry, peers, and professors to get a good amount of feedback.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Lead Generation: </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>Applied to 400+ roles and didn't hear back from any of the recruiters. No emails or interviews were bothering me a lot. I changed my strategy to mass applying to a focused approach by following a 5-step process:</div>
<div>1. Understanding the job requirements clearly (at least read it thrice)</div>
<div>2. Ensuring all the skills required are well catered in the resume </div>
    <div>3. Tailoring the resume accordingly</div>
<div>4. Networking: This is the key. I connected with recruiters, employees, and alumni to understand more about the role, and culture and asked to connect with relevant stakeholders.</div>
<div>5. Consistent Follow-up: This is the difference between average and excellent candidates. They keep on following unless they get some kind of answer.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Cracking Interviews: </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div>Keep your seat belt tightened because this is where the journey starts taking off. This is not something that could be learned in a single day or a week, this takes time. But two words that can make the difference are: environment and practice.</div>
<div>Stay connected with fellow colleagues who are applying for jobs and learn from each other. The tools, platforms, and opportunities keep on changing, but staying in the environment provides the motivation and guidance as and when required. </div>
<div>Last but not least, keep practicing; tools like Big Interview provided by UMBC for free were the game changer in this whole journey.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong></div>
<div>UMBC Career Center, Career Fairs, Networking events (UMBC Connects, Info Sessions, Arts With a Purpose, etc.), Alumni Networking, Student Organizations/Scholar Groups, Faculty Connections, Handshake, LinkedIn or other social media</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong></div>
    <div>Cross-functional collaboration</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></div>
<div>Three teams started using the templates I created for them, and there were three additional teams looking forward to it. In product management, we discuss customer satisfaction, repeat customers, and conversion rates. I served three customers (internal teams) and there were four other teams asking for it. This shows the impact that was created in just three months of time. </div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
<div>Research, practice, network. Just keep doing this and that's it. </div>
    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
<div><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong></div>
<div>Consistency differentiates the average from the excellent. Just do it and keep doing it, believe in the process and fantastic results will be waiting for you.</div>
    <div><br></div>

    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
<div><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong></div>

    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
<div><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong></div>
<div>In my position within the organization, what I've enjoyed the most is the opportunity to actively contribute to the organization's cybersecurity efforts. Monitoring and analyzing security alerts provided a real sense of purpose as I worked to identify and address potential threats, and collaborating with experienced technicians allowed me to learn from seasoned professionals. The dynamic nature of incident response and the need for quick thinking and decisive action made each day engaging and intellectually stimulating. Additionally, the organization's commitment to continuous learning and professional growth in cybersecurity aligned perfectly with my own aspirations, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented work environment that I found highly rewarding.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></div>
<div>Through my work, I believe I have made a significant impact by enhancing the organization's overall cybersecurity posture. By monitoring and analyzing security alerts, I helped identify and respond to potential threats promptly, reducing the risk of security breaches. My contributions to incident response and containment measures aided in minimizing the impact of security incidents, thereby safeguarding critical assets and data. Additionally, my involvement in updating incident response procedures and security documentation improved the organization's preparedness to handle future security challenges, leaving a lasting positive impact on its security resilience.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
<div>I would advise aspiring interns to be proactive and strategic in their search. Start early, research organizations that align with your interests and career goals, and tailor your applications to each position. Networking and attending career fairs can open doors to opportunities. During interviews, emphasize your enthusiasm for learning and your willingness to take on responsibilities. Once you secure an internship, approach it with a strong work ethic, open-mindedness, and a commitment to learning, as this will not only benefit your professional growth but also make a positive impression on your colleagues and supervisors.</div>
    <div><br></div>
<div><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong></div>
<div>While my internship provided valuable hands-on experience, what I liked most was the sense of purpose and contribution to a meaningful cause. It wasn't just about earning credits or a paycheck; it was about actively participating in the organization's cybersecurity efforts and working alongside dedicated professionals who were passionate about safeguarding digital assets and information.</div>
