Note of condolence - António Moreira

The Board of Directors of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) expresses its deepest sympathy for the death of António Moreira, former vice-rector for academic affairs at UMBC - University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

He graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of Porto in 1973, completed his master's and doctorate in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania (1975-1977) and completed his post-doctorate in Biochemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada in 1978. At the beginning of his career, Professor António Moreira played a key role in the development of the School of Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Porto, not only as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board, but also in promoting the exchange of students and staff from this institution with the University of Maryland. He was decorated by His Excellency the President of the Republic with the rank of Commander of the Order of Public Instruction and had been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since 2015.
