Apply for University System of Maryland Student Regent Represent 176,000 students on the System's governing board
The University System of Maryland encompasses 12 institutions, including UMBC, and three regional higher education centers. It employs more than 18,000 faculty members and 21,000 staff members, and owns almost 1,100 buildings. Its annual operating budget is more than $5 billion. There are more than 176,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at its various institutions. 

How would you like to represent all of those students as a member of the Board of Regents, the system's governing body? 

Please take a look at this description of the Student Regent position and consider applying. Please also pass the information along to friends who may be interested. The Student Regent will serve from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2023, serving as the voting Student Regent in 2022-2023. All applicants should be planning to graduate in spring 2023 or later.

The application deadline is Friday, November 6th at 5:00 p.m. Here is the application.

In 2019, former Senator and Secretary of State John Kerry and former Ohio Governor John Kasich, working with others, launched the World War Zero coalition. The new bipartisan initiative brings together unlikely allies to mobilize people from all walks of life to tackle climate change and pollution in the same way we mobilized to win World War II. World War Zero’s goal is to drive 10 million climate conversations in 2020, including this webinar for AASCU members.  

In this event, Kerry and Kasich will discuss the impacts of the climate crisis and pollution on American families and how our AASCU institutions can help prepare future a workforce that will lead America toward a clean energy economy that would create millions of good new jobs. In this critical moment, the Center for Democracy and Civic Life staff affirms our solidarity with the Black community at UMBC and beyond. Your story matters. Your voice matters. Your life matters. 

We mourn the Black Americans who have lost their lives to white supremacy and police brutality: George Floyd, David McAtee, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others whose names we know and whose names we don't. 

Our society and its institutions continue to oppress people on the basis of their race, religion, class, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ability, and other aspects of their identities. Collectively, we have failed to embrace every person as fully human, morally equal, and entitled to full participation. 

The Center for Democracy and Civic Life staff works with other members of the UMBC community to leverage all of our talents so we can build just, inclusive communities and a society in which everyone can thrive. Today we renew our commitment to challenging structural racism and white supremacy, and to advancing social justice in every facet of our work. This includes evaluating all of our programs to ensure that in addition to supporting students and colleagues in pursuing change through voting, advocacy, and strategic work in institutional settings, we are supporting them in directly challenging oppressive systems.
