"Notes + Me = Forever" Workshop Recap

<Tagline>Take a deep dive into taking notes...BEFORE class!</Tagline>

This week, your Student Success Coach Emma spent the Wednesday Workshop talking all about how to take the best notes ever. But here's the kicker: you have to take them before class!

    We covered topics like:

How to read a textbook chapter efficiently

What you need to write down during your reading/module/lecture video

How to take notes that function as a study tool (hint: you should be creating flashcards!)

What you should be focused on writing down during class

What to do after class to make sure that you tie up all the loose ends!

Special attention given to BIOL141 and CHEM102, since those are our biggest life science classes this semester!

Did we hook you with this? You might want to check out our video recap on YouTube!

As always, our Wednesday Workshops take place from 12-1 every week in UC115. Click the link below to check out the rest of our February offerings! But we'll be recapping them every week for you if you can't make it IRL.

SPRING 2025 STUDY HALL IS OPEN – Monday through Friday 1-4PM!!

<Tagline>Start the semester with good, healthy habits in the TLC!</Tagline>

A new semester means a clean slate and plenty of opportunities to start off with good, healthy habits like regular study sessions or study groups! To help you meet these goals, CNMS is opening up The Learning Collaboratory (UC 115) for an open study hall EVERY WEEKDAY (Monday - Friday) 1-4 PM. During these open study hours, you will have access to a monitored, distraction-free environment where you can study independently or as a group in a quiet, conducive learning space. If you have been looking for a great place to study on campus – THIS IS IT! We are located right behind Starbucks and Chick-fil-A so you can easily drop in after your mid-day pick me up!

This space is open to all students but throughout the semester we will also be providing introductory-level biology (141/142), chemistry (101/102), and physics (111/112;121/122) students with helpful, timely, and topical handouts – including study guides and practice problems! Make sure you watch your course’s Blackboard message for updates on the release of these materials and drop by to pick up your copy.

**PLEASE NOTE** Tutors will NOT be present at study hall sessions! For more support along these lines, please utilize the Academic Success Center’s resources.

BONUS: Some of your chemistry professors will be hosting their office hours in the TLC this semester!

During study hall, you are free to use one of the room’s many whiteboards and CNMS advisors/peers will be present to answer any questions you may have about effective study methods. There is no better time or place to meet with some of your classmates and form a study group and/or jump right in to practice problems!

See you there – and we can’t wait to support you this semester!

This week, your Student Success Coach Emma spent the Wednesday Workshop talking all about how to start the semester off on the right foot. There might not be any shortcuts to a 4.0, but there are lots of handy tips and tricks you can learn. We covered topics like:

Planning your time efficiently

Focusing better during your actual study time

Reading your syllabi to understand expectations

How to avoid cramming while still being prepared for tests

Where to go when you need help

If you had a tough first semester (which is perfectly normal, we promise!) then you might want to check out our video recap on YouTube!

Don't forget that on Friday, February 7 (this week!) our Director of the Science and Mathematics Advising Resource Team, Ms. Michelle Bulger, will be hosting drop-in hours where you can get some help setting up your planner (physical or digital). Details:
