One of the things that makes UMBC great is how wonderful our alumni, students, faculty, and staff are. Because of these amazing people, UMBC often finds itself “in the news,” so each week, we’ll be sharing with you a round-up of the most newsworthy achievements from our community.

• Dr. Hrabowski appeared on Dan Rodricks’ podcast to talk about his childhood in segregated Birmingham, Alabama, and his participation in the Children’s March, for which he was arrested at age 12.
• Doug Hamby, dance, says dance competition shows on TV have made competitive dance more popular and increased the number of men and boys participating.
• Men’s basketball coach Aki Thomas has been reunited with his former coach, co-worker, and mentor Frankie Allen, who is now UMBC’s assistant men’s basketball coach.
