<Title>Summer Internship Opportunities</Title>

    <p><span>The Student
    Airborne Research Program (SARP) is an eight-week summer internship program for
    rising senior undergraduate students to acquire hands-on research experience in
    all aspects of a scientific campaign using one or more NASA Airborne Science
    Program flying science laboratories (<a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://baeri.org/sarp/&amp;source=gmail-imap&amp;ust=1673799510000000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1A_A51LFSqr3x8GZt8yQqS" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://baeri.org/sarp/</a>). There
    is an informational session next Wednesday January 11. There is a flyer
    available on the Groups page. </span></p>

    Department of Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, at Hampton University.

<Title>Particpate in a UMBC Survey!</Title>

    <div><strong><span>Reminder: A Study on Technology Acceptance to Support Personal Decision-making in the Context of COVID-19 ($10 Incentive)</span></strong></div>

    <p><span>This
     is another round of recruiting participants for a study that was first 
    shared in July. If you already completed the screening questionnaire, 
    thank you for your participation. You do not need to resubmit.</span></p>
    <p><span>If
     you have not yet participated, please see information below about a 
    study open to all UMBC undergraduate students 18 years and older: </span></p>
    <span><p><span>We are conducting an online survey study to learn more about<span> </span>the<span> </span><strong>willingness
     of individuals to accept a potential mobile app that shows an 
    estimation of the occupancy level of different spaces (buildings, 
    floors, etc.) on campus in real time</strong><strong>. </strong>We are inviting you to 
    participate in our study. Your opinions are critical to developing a 
    useful tool for supporting individual decision-making in these uncertain
     times!</span></p>
    <p><span>You
     will be asked to complete a brief online Qualtrics screening survey 
    that will take less than 5 minutes to complete and includes basic 
    demographic and COVID-19 related questions<strong>.</strong> You will also be 
    asked to provide an email address if you are willing to participate in 
    the main study survey. Some students will then be selected to complete 
    another online Qualtrics survey that will take less than 30 minutes and 
    will explain the proposed technology and ask about your interest in and 
    willingness to adopt this technology. </span></p>
    <p><strong><span>To participate in this study, you must be a UMBC undergraduate student and 18 years or older.  </span></strong></p>
    <p><strong><span>After
     completing the screening survey, you will be entered into a drawing to 
    win one of ten $10 gift cards. If you are selected for and complete the 
    main study survey, you will be compensated with a $10 gift certificate

    <div>Wednesday, November 9th is the deadline to withdraw from individual courses. <br>
    </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Withdrawn courses count as attempts but do not impact your GPA.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>If withdrawing from one or more courses will bring you to less than full time status (12 credits) there may be impacts in other areas such as <a href="https://scholarships.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">scholarship</a>, <a href="https://financialaid.umbc.edu/contact/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">financial aid</a>, and <a href="https://reslife.umbc.edu/rlexperience/procedures/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">on-campus housing</a>. Questions about those areas should be directed to the appropriate office.</div>

    <div>Students can withdraw from the entire semester though the last day of classes, December 13th. Full semester withdrawals can have serious impacts on other areas and should always be discussed with an advisor. <br>
    </div>

    <p><strong><span>Spring 2023 Registration - Advising
    Appointment Information for Current Students:</span></strong></p>
    <p>All undergraduate students must receiving advising clearance in order to have their advising hold lifted and register for Spring 2023 courses. <br></p>
    <p><span><span><strong>Spring Registration for undergraduate students will begin in November. </strong><br></span></span></p>
    <p><span><span>The date/ time of registration eligibility for each student is based on the number of earned credit. <br></span></span></p>
    <div><span><span>Students can consult the Registration Appointment Calendar <a href="https://registrar.umbc.edu/calendars/registration-appointments/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">here</a>. Students can also find their specific registration eligibility date/ time by logging onto myUMBC, selecting "Guide," and then selecting "Registration" under Activity Guide. This information will also be available on your myUMBC front page starting on October 24. <br></span></span></div>

    <p><span>Pre-Majors and all first semester transfer students should schedule an advising appointment with a COEIT advisor <a href="https://calendly.com/coeit" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">here</a>. New appointments times are being added on a regular basis. <br></span></p>
    <p><span>All
     students who have passed their gateway, are not first semester transfer
     students, and have been updated to the full major will be advised by 
    faculty in the department. <br></span></p>
    <p><span>All Computer Science and Computer Engineering students who have passed the gateway, been enrolled at UMBC for at least one semester, and have been moved to full major should consult myUMBC (Profile - Degree) to see the name of their faculty. <br></span></p>
    <p><span>Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering students should have their faculty advisor's name emailed to them by the end of the week. <br></span></p>
    <p><span>More information about advising for students who are full majors, including how to find the name of your faculty advisor, can found <a href="https://advising.coeit.umbc.edu/registration_gateway/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">here</a>. </span></p>
    <p><span><strong>Faculty advisors may wait until the schedule of classes is posted on October 24 to meet with students.<br></strong></span></p>
    <p><span>Information Systems and Business Technology Administration
    majors (or students intending to change to one of these majors) are advised in
    the Information Systems Department. Please go </span><a href="https://informationsystems.umbc.edu/home/undergraduate-programs/undergraduate-advising/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>here</span></a><span> for more information.</span></p>
    
    
    
    <p><span>If you are changing your major to a major outside the
    College of Engineering and Information Technology, please contact the respective
    department of your </span><a href="https://advising.umbc.edu/academic-advising/student-resources/departmental-advising/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>new
    major</span></a><span> for advising appointment instructions. Please remember to
    complete a </span><a href="https://registrar.umbc.edu/forms/records-updaterequest-forms/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Declaration
    of Major form</span></a><span> for your new major. <br></span></p>
    <p><span><strong>Winter 2023 Session </strong><br></span></p>
    
    <p><span><a href="https://winter.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Winter session </a>registration will begin <strong>October 17</strong>.
    Students do not need to meet with an advisor prior to registering for winter courses unless they have questions or concerns. If you intend to take a course
    off-campus during the summer, a </span><a href="https://registrar.umbc.edu/forms/transfer-request-forms/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Verification
    of  Transferability Form</span></a><span> is required in advance of taking
    the winter course.</span></p>
    
    
    
    <p><strong><span>New Students Admitted for the Spring Semester:</span></strong></p>
