Incoming Student AP Information

<Tagline>Please read if you are expecting AP Scores Next Week</Tagline>

AP Scores will start being released by the College Board the week of July 4th. Even if you requested scores be sent to UMBC it still may take up to a few weeks for those scores to be received, processed, and evaluated.

Until the course equivalency is listed in your course history you won't be able to use it as a prerequisite to make schedule changes on your own. You can check to see if the course has been fully evaluated by going to myUMBC - Profile- Grades- Course History.

However, advisors may be able to help you make schedule adjustments soon after you have received your scores.

First, you should consult our AP transfer Policies to confirm that you will be receiving credit for your score.

Next, you will need to use the schedule planner to put together a new schedule. All overrides are issued on specific sections so you will need to know exactly which section(s) you want to register for each new course. COEIT advisors can help with this process. You can schedule an appointment here.

Once you have the section information you will need to reach out to the appropriate department to receive permission.

All communication must include your name, ID, specific section information, a screenshot of the appropriate AP score, and if you are sending an email it must come from your UMBC email account.

For Computer Science and Engineering permissions: email coeitadvising@umbc.edu.

For Math permissions: submit a Help Ticket here.

For Chemistry permissions: email CNMSadvising@umbc.edu

For Physics permissions: Physics@umbc.edu

Please make sure to confirm that your scores were sent and received by UMBC prior to the start of the Fall semester. Overrides will not be given for Spring courses.

STEM Support at UMBC : A Study ($15 Incentive)

<Tagline>Take part in a UMBC-based survey -- Juniors/Seniors Only</Tagline>

Please see information below about a study open to UMBC Junior/ Senior STEM majors:

My
name is Allison French and I am a PhD Candidate in the Applied
Developmental Psychology program at UMBC. As part of my dissertation
research, my faculty mentor, Dr. Shuyan Sun, and I are interested in learning
more about the experiences of undergraduate STEM students and their
perceptions of institutional support and sense of belonging. We are inviting you to participate in our study.

You will be asked to complete an online Qualtrics survey that will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
The survey includes questions about your perceptions of support from
faculty, staff, advisors, and other personnel at UMBC, your sense of
belonging in STEM, and some demographic information. Following the
survey, you will be asked if you would like to participate in a 90-minute virtual focus group,
where you will talk with a small group of other participants about your
experiences with institutional support and sense of belonging.

To
participate in this study, you must be in at least your junior year of
college (Including transfer students who have at least 60 credit hours
and have been at UMBC for at least one academic year). You must also
identify as a STEM major (for example, Chemistry, Biology, Physics,
Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, & Psychology
     BS).

If you complete the survey and focus group, you will be given a $15 Gift Card in exchange for your time.

If you are interested in participating, please click on the following survey link: https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d509xHLXSevsUoC

If you have any questions, please let me know at afrench2@umbc.edu.
