COEIT Advising is very excited to welcome students back to campus! In preparation for the return to a more regular semester COEIT Advisors are now back in the Advising Offices.

Starting Monday, August 23rd COEIT advisors will be offering both in person and online appointments. All students must make an appointment to meet with an advisor.

In person appointments are scheduled via Calendly, the same system as online appointments. In person appointments will be with the advisor available. If you want to meet with a specific advisor please either set up an online appointment or reach out to the advisor via email.

Advisors will be practicing social distancing, masking, and other mitigation strategies. As a result, we will not be able to share technology. If you are coming for an in person appointment and hope to make changes to your schedule you must bring a laptop in order to make those changes. Advisors cannot make changes on your behalf.

We will continue to offer online appointments throughout the semester. At this time, students are welcome to select an online appointment with the advisor of their choice.

Incoming Freshmen who have recently received new AP scores:

Congratulations! It will take UMBC time to receive and process your new scores so they are reflected in your course history/ transfer credit report!

You can view the scores required to receive UMBC credit for your AP exams here. 

Until your scores are received and processed you will not be able to automatically use those scores as prerequisites for higher level courses. However, the appropriate departments can enter overrides as long as you can show a screenshot of the score.

When requesting an override you will need to know the course and exact section of lecture (and discussion if required). You can use the schedule builder to identify the section(s) you want to register.

Math course overrides will need to be entered by the Math department via a Help Ticket. Please be sure to attach a screenshot of your AP scores.

Computer Science and Engineeringcourse overrides can be entered by a COEIT Advisors. Please send an email with your Name, Campus ID, the course, the course section number(s), and a screenshot of your AP scores to coeitadvising@umbc.edu.

Chemistry and Biology course overrides requested during the summer can be entered by CNMS Advisors. Please send an email with your Name, Campus ID, the course, the course section number(s), and a screenshot of your AP scores to cnmsadvising@umbc.edu.

Please keep in mind if you are part of certain scholars program you (Meyerhoff, CWIT) you should consult with your scholar advisor prior to making any schedule changes.

COEIT Advisors offer a full range of advising services over the summer to current students including:

Schedule Adjustment assistant for student who have already attended their orientation advising appointment.

Course Registration advising for current students who want to make changes to their Fall schedule

Advising Authorization for those current COEIT students who have not yet received advising authorization. Full majors should contact their faculty advisors first (MyUMBC-Profile-Degree-MyAdvisor) but all Pre majors and anyone having trouble reaching a faculty advisor can work with a COEIT advisor.

Academic Planning for students who need a graduation plan for ROTC, Co-op, or SAP appeal. Please read the information here before scheduling an appointment.

This scholarship is being offered directly by Brivo and is not being administered by UMBC. Application materials will be submitted directly to Brivo.

Any Computer Science or Engineering majors or pre-majors who need a SAP appeal academic plan approved should read about the process here.

SAP appeals require a rough draft and meeting with an advisor prior to advisor approval. As a result, it can take a few days to a week or more to complete the process. Please do not wait until the last minute.
