Honored to receive the Doctoral Research Poster Award in #Healthcare at UMBC COEIT Research Day 2025! Our work, “MultiRespNet: An Edge-Optimized Multi-Model Ensemble Approach for Real-Time Contactless Respiratory Rate Estimation,” was recognized by the judges, and I am grateful for the acknowledgment. This recognition is a meaningful milestone in my PhD journey at UMBC, and I am incredibly grateful to my co-authors and my PhD advisor for their collaboration, mentorship, and unwavering support. Special thanks to the UMBC #COEIT organizers and judges for putting together such an engaging platform to celebrate research across disciplines. #ResearchDay2025 #UMBC #COEIT #RespiratoryRate #ComputerVision #Deeplearning #ContactlessMonitoring #BiomedicalAI #SmartHealth #EdgeComputing
Well done, Ommo Clark!
Incredibly honored and thrilled to share that I won the COEIT Research Day 2025 Doctoral Student Award for my study, “Evaluating Causal AI Techniques for Health Misinformation Detection”! This marks the second year in a row of winning this award, recognizing my research presentation and effort. This consecutive win highlights not just persistence (and yes, lots of coffee!), but more importantly: • The critical urgency and relevance of developing robust methods against health misinformation. • The innovative potential of Causal AI to significantly advance model intelligence and explainability in critical domains. • The growing impact and necessity of building and advancing truly trustworthy AI solutions. I am deeply grateful for this acknowledgment and the support of my advisor and co-author Dr. Karuna Pande Joshi. I am energized by this momentum and more motivated than ever to keep pushing this essential work forward! #COEITResearchDay #UMBC #PhDJourney #CausalAI #ResearchMatters #STEMGoals #GradSchoolLife

We are excited to announce Dr. Yasmine Kotturi is one of 14 Fellows chosen for the 2025 Design & Technology (D&T) Program of the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE). Now in its fifteenth year of operation, FASPE annually grants 80-90 Fellowships to graduate students and early-career professionals in the fields of Design & Technology, Business, Journalism, Law, Medicine, and Clergy. Fellows participate in a two-week program in Germany and Poland, which uses the conduct of professionals in Nazi-occupied Europe as an initial framework for approaching ethical responsibility in the professions today. The FASPE curriculum takes advantage of the power of place with daily seminars and dialogue at sites of historic importance, often specific to their profession. The experience of the D&T Fellows is enhanced by traveling alongside the Business and Law fellows, who — in formal and informal settings—consider together how ethical constructs and norms in their respective professions align and differ. Looking ahead to the upcoming fellowship trip, Dr. Kotturi says, “I was drawn to FASPE because of its focus on ethical leadership and the responsibility of professionals in shaping technology’s societal impact. As an educator, I see FASPE as an opportunity to deepen my understanding of ethical dilemmas in practice and inform my approach to training the next generation of technology and design practitioners to be more critically minded and ethically accountable. In addition, FASPE provides a unique opportunity to build relationships across disciplines—law, journalism, technology, business, clergy, medicine—united under a common pursuit, fostering collaboration and deeper ethical discourse.” Visit our HCC page for full release: https://lnkd.in/eAmZQ4Nv

Insightful presentation last week during our WISS series. Thank you, Dr. Pedrosa!
AI Researcher and Professor | Consultant of AI or ML | Senior MLOPS Engineer | Scalable AI Solutions
Since August 2024, I’ve been conducting a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), which runs through July 2025. This has been a unique opportunity for learning, international collaboration, and enhancing the solutions we’ve been developing in Brazil. The advancements I presented this week at the Department of Information Systems at UMBC are based on the ongoing work of our research group, LAPISCO, known for delivering applied and impactful AI solutions. During this postdoctoral period, these projects have been further refined through new perspectives and collaborations, especially with Professor Houbing Song. The presentation was part of WISS – the Wednesday Information System Seminar, a weekly lunchtime event where faculty, researchers, and students share insights and research in progress. In my case, the traditional pizza only came after the talk — and it was worth the wait. I’m thankful to Professor Houbing Herbert Song for the generous partnership, and to FUNCAP, SECITECE, and PPGCC/IFCE for their support through the internationalization grant. These strategic investments make global scientific exchange possible. This experience reinforces our mission in Brazil: to design and deliver end-to-end AI solutions that drive real-world impact — in partnership with companies and government institutions that believe in data-driven innovation. We bring expertise in: - Data Science, Big Data, and Analytics - Business Intelligence powered by AI - AI for Mobile, Web, and Cloud - Generative AI (LLMs and more) - Computer Vision and Image Processing - Edge AI and Embedded Systems - MLOps and AI Infrastructure - Explainable and Responsible AI If you already have a solution in mind and want to bring it to life with applied AI, get in touch: contact@pedropedrosa.ai University of Maryland Baltimore County Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Ceará
