Fall Research Internship in Life Sciences BioMarker Strategies is hiring! BioMarker Strategies is a tissue-based cancer diagnostics company developing the innovative SnapPath live tumor cell processing and testing system. This novel pathology-based medical device will automatically process tumor biopsies on a real-time basis at the point of care. The proprietary SnapPath system will also serve as a testing platform for our growing portfolio of live cell/ex-vivo biomarker tests, including tests to determine which patients will benefit from specific targeted cancer drugs. The company will then combine traditional pathology diagnostic services with improved molecular pathology tumor profiles and novel, live-cell biomarker tests to be performed in our future CLIA lab.

Position Description:

1. Developing market research for business plan, developing presentations for fundraising, system development for purchasing.

2. Help conduct experiments, western blots, PCR, and IHC.

3. Development of quality system documents for training per FDA regulations.

Performing raw material quality assurance activities and material performance
Conducting problem solving investigations and troubleshooting to assure root cause is identified, counter measures and recurrence prevention are fully implemented

Providing technical support and analytical analysis for material issues
Involvement with data flow diagrams/technical diagrams

Volunteers are needed!  Students should be able to commit to service on Wednesdays, from 7-9pm, for visits to a local residential care home for adults who have developmental disabilities.  

Volunteers also participate in one weekend activity each month.

The Shriver Center's Service-Learning Program is recruiting 2 UMBC students to launch the start of a new weekly service opportunity offered through the LET'S GO Boys & Girls STEM Program, with the Meade Village Boys & Girls Club's First Lego League.  Students majoring in STEM, especially Mechanical Engineering, are strongly encouraged to apply!  The site is in need of 2 volunteers on Wednesdays, from 3:30-6:30pm (this includes travel time to and from the site), and a stipend of $300-400 is available for the positions.  Transportation is not provided, but carpools may be arranged.

Interested students should complete the attached application, which is due to The Shriver Center by next Wednesday, September 21st. Completed application can be sent to clare6@umbc.edu, and qualified students will be contacted for interviews shortly after all submissions have been received.  Students who are selected for the site will be able to enroll in the 096 Practicum and receive a transcript notation that recognizes their participation in The Shriver Center's Service-Learning Program.

This is a great way to get involved in an after-school program that is providing First Lego League opportunities through a service-learning experience!
