Because of rain, tomorrow's event (Friday, May 6th) will relocate indoors to UMBC's Apartment Community Center. At 1:30pm, Kate Drabinski (GWST) kicks off the Opening Ceremonies. There will be contests, fun, & food. Planner Hager Younes will lead the Luminaria Ceremony @3:30pm, at which you can hear an impactful story from Kara Seidel '18 and current PhD student in the Language, Literacy, & Culture Program. ]]>Please join us for i3b's 9th Annual Lavender Celebration. An evening to celebrate the wonderful achievements of UMBC’s LGBTQIA+ graduating seniors, graduate students, and their allies. LGBTQIA+ students overcome incredible odds to succeed and make a difference at UMBC. This ceremony is in recognition of LGBTQIA+ students and in recognition of all the allied staff, faculty, alumnx, and programs that work to support them. Graduating seniors and graduate students who RSVP will be recognized and receive lavender honor cords. To receive your Lavender honor cords and pin, please fill out our Lavender and Black & Latine/x Celebration Social Media Campaign + Graduation Package Form. DEADLINE to receive cords: May 6, 2022 at 9:00a.m. Award categories will encompass student, staff, faculty, and programmatic efforts, and will include recognition for LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as allies to the community.

Black and Latine/x students have been historically underrepresented in post-secondary degree attainment and have overcome incredible odds to succeed and make an invaluable contribution to the wider UMBC community.
This ceremony is in recognition of this milestone of our Black and Latine/x students as well as an evening to be in community with all the staff, faculty, alumni, and loved ones that have supported them. Seniors and graduate students graduating in Spring and Fall 2022 will be recognized and receive a Black and Brown honor cords, as well as a special CBLA Black and Brown pin!
