Meet Dr. Viviana MacManus, one of the new faces at UMBC Our newest Assistant Professor of Gender + Women's Studies The Department of Gender + Women's Studies is very pleased to announce our most recent addition to the GWST faculty. Dr. Viviana MacManus is currently featured on the UMBC homepage, along with Dr. Scott Casper, Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and other new leaders and faculty on campus. Dr. MacManus is currently teaching Introduction to Gender + Women's Studies, and will offer two classes in the Spring, Gender and Human Rights in Latin America, and International Feminist Filmmakers.

Here's what Dr. MacManus had to say about her experience as a Post Doctoral Fellow, and transitioning to her new post as Assistant Professor in the Department of Gender + Women's Studies.

"I feel welcome and wanted here. The warm and supportive community within the department of gender and women’s studies was a major reason why I stayed at UMBC. I felt supported intellectually, community-wise on campus, and personally. I had the support that I needed to succeed.

It also said a lot to me that UMBC valued the liberal arts and humanities enough to invest in hiring new faculty in gender and women’s studies, and investing in the humanities overall. The fellowship gave me time and support to transition from graduate school to the faculty. I designed my own classes, but also had the time to do my own research. I learned how to balance that, which I think is hard for new faculty right out of graduate school.

I think I’m super fortunate. On-Campus Interviews offer students a chance to conveniently interview for professional positions on campus.  Employers travel to our campus for the specific purpose of interviewing preselected students for currently open positions.  This is a great opportunity to interview with employers specifically interested in UMBC students and offers the advantage of a smaller applicant pool.  Interviews take place during the fall and spring. Wolf Trap Foundation's Internship Program provides project-based training and experience to approximately 40 interns annually. As a Wolf Trap intern, you become an integral member of our team, working with staff and other interns on meaningful projects. E-Commerce Internship
Seeking an aggressive/ambitious self-starter to lead its name-acquisition efforts. The candidate should have experience using Google AdWords, adCenter, and Google Analytics, as well as a basic working knowledge of HTML. Experience with additional ad networks and retargeting is a plus. The ideal candidate will be able to excel at the following functions….

Assist manager with paid search and social media advertising campaigns
Assist in guiding social media strategy, with a focus on name acquisition, customer service, and conversion
Identify and test new advertising mediums
Help oversee landing page testing and optimization process
Assist overall lead generation budget; optimizing channels based on performance analysis
Lead free report development process as it pertains to developing new paid search campaigns
Help manage sign up box and paid product banner ad development for the portfolio of branded websites

WordPress Internship
Agora, Inc is a Baltimore based publishing company with offices in twelve countries. We’re seeking an intern to assist  our Wordpress developer to help grow our vast network of enterprise level Wordpress sites. We need you to have a strong understanding of WordPress. 
Description of Opportunity:
- Assist in development of high performance, highly scalable, custom applications for a web environment, mostly Wordpress (i.e. plugins, themes)
- Help Integrate Wordpress with other web based applications
-Debug, extend & document jobs from start to finish
- Assist in redeveloping, extending, and/or enhancing existing code
- Identifying areas that can be improved and turning that into functionality from start to finish
