Digital Storytelling Workshop: 2:45 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
In the aftermath of the death of Freddie Gray in April 2015, we need conversations that bring together a variety of voices and communities to address the intersections of poverty, race, ethnicity, and gender and help create new stories about Baltimore. This event will highlight Baltimore communities and stories through conversations about the past, present, and future of the city. Participants will explore questions about equity, identity, immigration, and belonging and discuss how residents' experiences are shaped in and through their neighborhoods. After the conversation, participants can also learn how to use digital storytelling as a way to record and disseminate their voices.

Six new faculty in the College will present short talks
Join us on Tuesday, April 5th, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Imaging Research Center (ITE 108A).
The Dresher Center for the Humanities, in partnership with The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, invites you to attend an afternoon of short talks by new faculty in the College. Please join us to meet tenure-stream faculty hired in the last year and to learn about their research. A reception will follow.

"Baltimore Stories: Narratives in the Life of an American City" is a year-long, grant-funded educational program examining narrative, race and power. The program will kick-off on Wednesday, March 23rd with a free public forum, led by the University of Maryland Arts and Humanities Center for Synergy and Maryland Humanities Council, at Westminster Hall in Baltimore. Morning speakers will include David Simon, author, journalist and writer of Homicide: Life on the Streets and The Wire, and Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad, historian and director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The afternoon session will be a response to the morning's ideas and will include University of Maryland historian Dr. Christopher Bonner and a panel of local humanists, public intellectuals, activists and the audience. UMBC Spring Research Forum on "Seeing Science"
Interdisciplinary Forum to be held on April 8th
The UMBC Office of Research will present the Spring Research Forum, "Seeing Science: Photography, Science, and Visual Culture," on April 8, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (registration is required) in the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery. The Forum will feature a keynote presentation by Sheldon Brown, professor of Visual Arts and director of the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination at the University of California San Diego. He is also the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Endowed Chair in Digital Media and Learning. This interdisciplinary Forum will also include faculty sessions on the "Art and Science of Human Imagination" as well as views and perspectives from "Outer Space" and "Inner Space." Dresher Center Faculty Working Groups in the Humanities
Call for Applications for Groups Forming in Fall 2016
The Dresher Center invites applications for new Faculty Working Groups in the Humanities. Faculty Working Groups are collaborative, interdisciplinary communities of scholars working on humanities projects, research concerns, or matters of public interest. The Dresher Center provides support for the formation and first-year activities of these groups in an effort to promote intellectual exchange and support research activities in the humanities among scholars across campus. Working groups meet regularly and may also use their funds to travel to sites or archives, host speakers, explore technologies, create new resources or materials, or other similar activities.
Faculty Working Groups can apply for up to $1,000 in annual support ($500 per semester) for their first-year activities. Priority will be given to groups with at least one member from a humanities department.
Apply by April 1, 2016 for groups beginning or continuing in fall 2016.

Dresher Center 2016 SFRF Applications Due February 15th
Deadline Approaching for Summer Faculty Fellowship Proposals
The application deadline for Dresher Center Summer Faculty Research Fellowships (SFRF) is February 15, 2016.
Full-time, tenure-track faculty pursuing humanities research in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences are welcome to submit proposals for a Dresher Center SFRF. Summer Faculty Research Fellows will receive support for research and assistance in developing extramural funding applications, book proposals, and grant project applications. Funding may also be used for the completion of book manuscripts, major articles, or projects of a similar stature.

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) offers tuition-free opportunities for college and university educators to study a variety of humanities topics in the summer. Stipends of $1,200-$3,900 help cover the expenses for these one- to five-week programs.

March 1, 2016.
