Just posted: Announcement for summer interns, seeking both undergraduate and graduate students. As the new infrastructure act rolls out, there’s a lot of interesting work coming our way. It’s too early to know about specific projects, but it is likely that we will be working on a variety of topics related to climate change (infrastructure resilience and emission reduction), new technologies, accessibility, equity, and other innovations and investments in all modes of transportation. We expect to support grant programs, regulatory development and policy decisions.

My name is Sarah Wheaton and I’m a Research Assistant at President Biden’s Council of Economic Advisers. As you may know, we are a team of economists who provide objective, empirical economic advice on the formulation of the President’s domestic and international economic policies.
I’m writing today because we have recently opened hiring for our Spring and Summer 2022 internship programs. We are hiring full and part-time interns for both the spring and summer programs. The Demographic Research Area houses a multi-disciplinary staff of social science researchers (e.g. demographers, economists, geographers, sociologists) responsible for researching, developing, coordinating and implementing innovative applications of administrative records to improve Census Bureau data collection operations and data products. It includes the Survey and Economic Research Group and the Demographic and Decennial Research Group.
The Survey and Economic Research Group focuses on novel applications of administrative records in Census Bureau household survey data collection efforts. The group is responsible for researching and testing innovative methods to improve all phases of the survey life cycle, including frame development, data collection, data processing (including edit and imputation), evaluation and dissemination.
The Demographic and Decennial Research Group works with internal and external stakeholders, sponsors, and data providers to improve decennial census collection efforts. Examples include: researching measurement error in common household survey items such as demographics, household rosters, and participation in public assistance programs; assessing coverage of administrative records in the decennial census and household surveys; and analyzing response changes across multiple censuses and surveys.

Economics professors David Laibson (Harvard University), James Choi (Yale University), and John Beshears (Harvard Business School) are hiring a full‐time research assistant to start work in mid-June 2022. This position will last until mid-July 2023, with a potential second-year renewal, and will involve work on theoretical and empirical research related to behavioral economics, decision making, savings, and health behaviors. The research uses field data, experimental data, and field experiments.
Salary is $58,500 annually, plus benefits. Expected start date is mid-June 2022. Visa sponsorship is available.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performing statistical analyses on large databases
- Designing and running experiments
- Programming simulations of theoretical models
- Proving theoretical results
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree by start date (required)
- Strong programming and quantitative skills, including coursework in multivariable calculus, matrix algebra, probability, and statistics (required)
- Previous experience estimating econometric models (strongly preferred)
- Interest in applying to a quantitative PhD program and pursuing an academic career (strongly preferred).
We prefer research assistants who want to become professional economists, but we're interested in future PhDs in any quantitative field. Our past full‐time RAs have enrolled in the following PhD programs: Harvard economics (13), Harvard business economics (5), Harvard public policy (1), MIT economics (8), MIT operations research (1), Princeton economics (1), University of Chicago GSB – finance (2), University of Chicago GSB – economics (2), University of Chicago history (1), UC Berkeley economics (1), Yale economics (1), Columbia economics (1), and NYU Stern economics (1).
