Last Day to Request Grading Method Change from Regular to Pass/Fail (P/F): Requests accepted through June 10

Students currently enrolled in a course under the regular grading method (A, B, C, D, or F) may request to have their final grade changed from an A, B, C, or D to a Pass (P) by submitting a request to the Academic Success Center. 

Note: Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to discuss the various implications (i.e., applicability to major/minor/certificate requirements, pre-requisites, professional school requirements, etc.) associated with changing the grading method to the Pass/Fail option.

The Department of Economics Policy regarding whether courses completed with a grade of "P" in Spring, 2020 will meet requirements for the ECON BA, the  FIEC B.S., Econ minors, and Accounting Certificates is as follows. 

Courses  taken in Spring, 2020 which are NOT required prerequisites for
other courses can count towards the ECON, FIEC, and any Econ minor as well as  both accounting certificates if completed with
a grade of P.     

For courses taken in Spring, 2020 that are required prereqs for other courses, they will have to be completed with a grade of at least "C" to count towards our ECON,FIEC, and any Econ minor and accounting certificate requirements. 

Here is a list of the courses based on this criteria that  must be completed with a grade
of "C" or higher to count towards Econ and Accounting program requirements:

Econ 101
Econ 102
Econ 121
Econ 122
Econ 311
Econ 312
Math 151
Math 155
Stat 350, 351, 355, 453, or CMPE 320, or Econ 310
Econ 374
Econ 301

It is recommended that each student consult with their faculty adviser regarding whether to take  a grade of "P" rather than a letter grade for Spring, 2020 courses.  Here are some general considerations on whether to take a grade of "P" rather than a letter grade for a particular course.

Because of the special arrangement for this semester, you will know what your letter grade will be if you don't choose to take the course with a P for all of your Spring, 2020 courses.  It should be  obvious that if you get an A in a course, it would make no sense to take a P instead.  For a course in which you get a D, you would probably want to take a P to keep up your GPA at 2.0.  For a course in which you get a C, taking the letter grade would help make sure that your GPA is at least at 2.0 and it would also count toward major requirements; however, you may want to take a  P for this course in order to keep your GPA above a 2.0.     

For a course in which you get a B there are competing considerations:  You may want to take a P in that course if you are aiming to keep your GPA above a 3.0;  however, taking a P could signal to some that you expected to get a grade of C or D rather than an A or B which signal you may want to avoid.  So  the decision on taking a P rather than a B  would be how important maintaining your GPA above a 3.0 is.
