Wednesday Wisdom Series
Introducing the Graduate School CARE team
In an effort to better support the mental health and well being of our graduate student population, the Graduate School CARE team (Concern, Assessment, Referral and Education) was created to identify, monitor, and support graduate students facing significant obstacles to progress that do not rise to the level of the campus behavioral crisis team (BRACT). Members of the CARE team directly advise and support graduate students, advocate for them and liaise with their program/dept as requested, and refer/connect them to resources on campus that can assist them. As necessary, the CARE team triages with other campus units including BRACT, ISS/CGS, legal, OEI, and RIH.
As trends arise, the CARE team can make recommendations for changes in practice and policy (to the Graduate School, to the Colleges, etc.) that improve student mental health, success and sense of belonging.

What is Meet and Confer (M&C)?
Meet and Confer (M&C) is a policy within the University System of Maryland (USM) that allows Graduate Assistants to participate in formal discussions with the administration regarding employment-related matters, including compensation and benefits. To learn more about M&C, please visit the

M&C Meetings- Spring '24
This year, we have adopted a new approach by organizing separate M&C meetings for each college at UMBC. This strategy is designed to address specific issues facing Graduate Assistants within individual colleges and departments in a more focused manner. Additionally, we have extended invitations to department chairs to ensure that department-level administration actively participates in resolving GA-related concerns, in collaboration with graduate school administration.
The
CAHSS M&C Meeting is scheduled for April 15th, and we strongly encourage all
GAs from CAHSS Departments to complete
the survey. Your input will allow you to voice your concerns and issues to the Graduate Assistant Advisory Committee, who will present them at the M&C meetings for discussion and resolution.

Good morning, Mosaic Community!
Happy April! The Mosaic will have a delayed opening today, Monday, April 1, 2024. We will open today at 12:30pm due to staffing changes. The Mosaic will resume regular opening hours tomorrow, April 2nd, 2024. Please see below for our spring hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
- Mondays: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Tuesdays: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesdays: 10:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.
- Thursdays: 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.
- Fridays: 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

Hello everyone! We have a quick announcement...
We heard that more people wanted to sign up, so we're extending the deadline from the 31st until the 12th!
Remember, submit your recipe ideas through the link listed below. 3 teams will be selected consisting of 3-4 people. The actual cooking competition will be held at True Grits on Thursday, April 25th from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
SUPER IMPORTANT:
On the day of the competition, if you bring a donation of any canned goods, snacks, etc. you can get into True Grits COMPLETELY FREE. However, there are some things we can not take. These include...
- Already eaten or opened food
- Prepared food
- Cans that don't have labels of what they are
- Rotten/Spoiled food (Obviously)
