    <div class="html-content"><div>This is a reminder that registration for Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs) closes TONIGHT! This is an opportunity for structured time to meet your writing goals. Each group has a facilitator who helps the group track goals and connects with resources. This is a wonderful chance to build a community! </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>HEY GRADUATE STUDENTS!!! </div><div><br></div><div>Do you struggle with setting aside time to write? Do you need to make progress on a paper, thesis, literature review, or anything similar this semester? Do you like prizes and friendship? </div><div><br></div><div>If you answered 'YES' to ANY of these, then a Writing Accountability Group (WAG) is for you! Small groups are made based on everyone's goals and preferences and will meet weekly to write!     <div class="html-content"><div>Dear RE Community,<br><br>Retriever Essentials is an initiative that through the collective (students, staff, and faculty), has continued to address food insecurity in our UMBC community! We as a collective would not be able to do the work we do without donations, as this has been the main source of funding to continue our program. </div><div><br></div><div>This semester has presented <em>unforeseen challenges</em> as we have seen a greater need for Retriever Essentials, and thus, a lack of food.     <div class="html-content"><div>The Writing Advisor is back for the 2023-2024 academic school year!</div><div><br></div><div>GSA's new Writing Advisor for the 2023-2024 academic school year, Ben Marino, is now accepting appointments to review your writing assignments. The Writing Advisor provides a wide range of services, from brainstorming and outlining an assignment to doing a last review for grammatical errors, and everything in between. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment with the Writing Advisor for any assignment that you would like reviewed. You do not need to have any work done on the assignment.</div><div><br></div><div>This semester, the writing advisor is accepting appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 am - 12 pm and 12:30 pm - 3:45 pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm. <Title>Hispanic Heritage: Luminaries with Disabilities</Title>

<Title>UMBC ranks among the best in undergraduate resesarch</Title>
<Tagline>#27 in U.S. News and World Report</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><p>UMBC continues to show its strengths in undergraduate research, innovation, value, teaching programs, and several other areas highlighted in the <a href="https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">2023–24 <em>U.S. News and World Report</em> Best Colleges undergraduate rankings</a>. This year, the university moved up in the national rankings in numerous categories, showcasing UMBC’s growth in several key areas. </p><p>The 2023–24<em> U.S. News</em> college rankings, released today, were calculated using 19 key measures of academic quality, evaluating nearly 1,500 four-year bachelor’s degree-granting institutions in the country. For the second consecutive year, UMBC has moved up several slots on the list of Best National Universities (tied at #133). UMBC also climbed 38 slots in the category of best value schools, coming in at #69 nationally. </p><p>The university remains a leader in undergraduate teaching programs, ranking #12 nationally. UMBC also maintains its longstanding position as one of the nation’s most innovative universities, ranking #15 this year. </p><p>Since receiving a <a href="https://umbc.edu/stories/umbc-ascends-to-the-nations-highest-level-as-a-research-university/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Research 1 Carnegie designation in 2022</a>, UMBC has advanced nearly 20 slots in the undergraduate research and creative projects rankings, now nationally ranked at #27.     <div class="html-content"><p><strong>Applications for the '23-'24 MLE Cohort can be found <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScRf1jYuZb-4r6pHuwFRl1uDsv70D7t7-UeaQGyQTBG_sZLLA/viewform?usp=sf_link" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a>. </strong></p><p><strong>The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE) is a collaboration between Campus Life and Initiatives for Identity Inclusion &amp; Belonging (i3B), that seeks to: </strong></p><p><strong>Engage participants in a multicultural development and leadership learning program; <br>Enhance participants' understanding of their social identities, leader identity, as well as their capacity to lead; <br>And enable participants' development through authenticity, self-awareness, relationships, and capitalizing on difference. </strong></p><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><span><div>The sessions are as follows:<div> </div></div><div>- Monday, October 2nd, 2023, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Monday, October 23rd, 2023, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Monday, November 6th, 2023, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Monday, November 20th, 2023, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Monday, December 4th, 2023, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Monday, February 5th, 2024, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- <em>No March Meeting</em></div><div>- Monday, April 8th, 2024, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Monday, May 6th, 2024, 3pm - 5:30pm (The Skylight Lounge)</div><div> </div><div>***All sessions will take place in The Commons Lower Flat Tuesdays minus the last meeting in May***</div><div><br></div><div><div>Participants will be exploring the concept of Authentic Leadership, Legacy Building, and Breaking Barriers of White Supremacy within Leadership. We will do this in a leadership learning cohort by: </div><ul><li>Enhancing participants' leader identity and leadership capacity using an identity-conscious lens and student development theories;</li><li>Increasing participants' awareness of their personal abilities, identity development, and intersections that shape their story through authenticity, self-reflection, and cultural humility;</li><li>Exploring the role they play in developing relationships while building intra/intercultural connections; </li><li>And capitalizing on their differences, specifically in relation to their racial, ethnic, national, and other salient identity social groups</li></ul><div> </div><div>The purpose of all MLE programs is to provide a space for students and student leaders who identify within diverse or marginalized backgrounds to discover their own capacity to lead, while also promoting a better understanding of their experiences, issues, strengths, and outcomes in navigating their own collegiate careers.
