<Title>Now Accepting Entries for UMBCookoff Competition!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Do you think you have what it takes to be @umbcdining and Retriever Essentials' UMBCooking champion? Anyone can participate from a student org, club, alumni group, or even a group of friends! <a href="https://forms.gle/LTbU2nzKssGXtrJC7" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Sign up here</a> with your best recipes! More details below.</div><div><br></div><div><img src="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/retrieveressentials/posts/131833/attachments/46549" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div><br></div><div>Details: Each team will consist of 3-4 individuals and you will be able to compete for a panel of judges in a live cooking competition. We supply the ingredients, you supply the chefs! You will have until <strong>Sunday, March 26th, 2023 at 10:00pm to sign up</strong>! Selected teams will compete in person at True Grits on Tuesday, May 2nd from 5-7 PM for a panel of judges.</div><div><br></div><div>Qualification: Your team must submit two dishes! You don't have to cook these for us, but your recipes' creativity, detail, ingredients, how tasty they sounds, and your use of a Retriever Essentials ingredient will determine if you compete on May 2nd! For a further understanding, see the link in our bio.</div><div><br></div><div>Selection Period: We will be selecting teams the moment the sign up ends and we will let you know in an announcement on myUMBC March 31st, 2023. The announcement will have team names, recipe titles, date of the competition. We will also personally email you as well to make sure you get the message! 3 teams will be selected and they will have a chance to cook their two dishes for our judges in the main event!</div><div><br></div><div>!!The day your teams will compete is May 2nd of this semester from 5:00 to 7:00 PM!!</div><div><br></div><div>Prizes: Prizes will include your dish being featured one day in the True Grits Dining Hall menu with the option to cook it with SVC staff, gift cards to local participating restaurants and other places, and potentially some other prizes that will be very, very, VERY intriguing.</div><div><br></div></div>

<Title>REPOST: Candid Conversations about Accessibility w/InstrTech</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>This session will provide an overview of resources available to support the common accommodation needs for students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. Students with disability accommodations may require sign language interpreters and captioning/transcriptions of all audio and video materials.  </span></p><p><span>We will provide an overview of the options that Student Disability Services (SDS) and DoIT provide UMBC users to meet student accommodation needs. Transcription/captioning is a legal requirement for course materials for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, though </span>all<span> students benefit from the availability of transcribed/captioned content which increases engagement and increases  retention and comprehension. </span></p><p><span>In the session, answers to some common questions will be addressed including:</span></p><ul><li><p><span>I just received a letter from SDS requiring accommodations for a student who is deaf or has a hearing impairment. <Title>Rest in Power Judy Heumann, Disability Rights Activist</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Judith "Judy" Heumann - widely regarded as the "mother" of the disability rights movement passed away in DC on March 4, 2023.  <a href="https://judithheumann.com/the-world-mourns-the-passing-of-judy-heumann-disability-rights-activist/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">A summary of her life and essential work is available on her website here</a>.</div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://judithheumann.com/memorial-service-honoring-the-life-of-judy-heumann/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Memorial service information (DC/Livestream) is posted here.</a></div><div><br></div><div>She has left an indelible mark on the world for people with disabilities and all who benefit from accessible features.  She has been a lifelong advocate for herself and others, beginning with her own educational advocacy and her successful challenge in becoming a licensed teacher who uses a wheelchair and continuing to the present day. Her experience with Camp Jened and the San Francisco 504 protests has received broad attention with the recent documentary <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRrIs22plz0" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Crip Camp</a>.
