Save-a-Swipe is BACK! 

Feel like making a difference in your community? If you own a meal plan through UMBC, you are eligible to donate to our Save-a-Swipe program! You can donate 5-10 meals to Save-a-Swipe, where they will be pooled and delegated to students suffering from food insecurity later in the semester. We are very happy to announce that our program is back for the fall semester, and we look forward to how many lives we can change!

Every meal makes a difference!

Navigating UMBC's campus-on-a-hill as a person with a disability brings out overt and sometimes more subtle features of its accessible design.  Join us to learn more (which can extend to being an effective Accessibility Ally!) and discuss: 

What are the features? We have many, including a Skywalk and several upgrades (lecture halls and elevators) and more on the way.

What are the bugs?  Learn more about how work with situations, whether it's contacting Work Control for a repair (410-455-2550), reporting an accessibility concern, or working with campus partners, such as Facilities Management  and DoIT to support inclusion.  Accessibility is everyone's responsibility.

We will gather in the ADS Conference Room - learn the skywalk and tunnel connections within the Academic Core, review Adaptive Computing within the Library, and visit the reception area of Retriever Integrated Health - which supports both physical and mental health.  The tour is limited to a small group, and please know that mask use is VERY WELCOME.

Join the writing accountability group to commit to your writing goals. The kickoff meeting is on 10/03/2025 from 11am - 12pm at ILSB 230 (virtual option also available). Light refreshments will be provided!

What are Writing Accountability Group, or WAGs at UMBC?

  • What: Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs) are voluntary and facilitated by fellow UMBC graduate students

  • Who: WAGs are comprised of a group of graduate students (usually 4-8 participants per group) interested in developing writing habits and accountability 

  • Why: Develop habits of writing every day for a short, manageable period of time by setting goals and being accountable to WAG peers 

  • When: WAG groups meet once a week for 60-90 minutes for 10-12 weeks. The group finds a weekly time mutually convenient to all group members.

  • Where: The group decides on a mutually convenient location to meet, whether in person or online via WebEx or other video conferencing platform

Here at UMBC, we know a thing or two about Retrievers—and this month, we're honoring some of the hardest-working ones around.

Guide dogs are more than companions; they are highly trained service animal partners who provide independence, safety, and confidence to individuals who are visually challenged. Their dedication and loyalty empower their handlers to navigate the world with courage and freedom. Fun Fact: Labradors, golden retrievers, German shepherds, and labrador/golden crosses are among the most common guide dog breeds, chosen for their intelligence, size, and calm temperament.

This September, we send a round of Retriever pride to all the guide dogs who make a difference every single day. Thank you for your service, dedication, and love.

Retriever Integrated Health is hosting a  Quantiferon (TB blood test) Clinic in partnership with Quest Diagnostics. This clinic is designed to make it easy for students, faculty, and staff who need TB screening to get it done on campus.

Clinic Details

Why TB Screening Matters
Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that can affect the lungs and spread through the air. Many academic programs, clinical placements, internships, and employment opportunities require TB screening as part of their health clearance. Getting tested on campus ensures you meet these requirements conveniently and on time.

Who Should Attend
Students who have a TB screening requirement for classes, programs, or internships
Faculty and staff who need a current TB test for employment or professional obligations
Anyone interested in confirming their TB status for personal health reasons

What to Expect
The TB clinic will use a simple, reliable screening process conducted by Quest Diagnostics. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome during clinic hours. Please bring campus ID and your insurance card, if available.
