<Title>Summer Research Opportunity, Washington DC</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The National Museum of Natural  History, Smithsonian Institution, hosts a world-class research staff and  unparalleled scientific research collections. Natural History Research  Experience (NHRE) summer internships pair undergraduates with members of the Natural  History research and collections staff, providing a hands-on introduction to scientific research. Here is an opportunity for students to engage in an original research project with a scientific mentor from one or more of
     the  scholarly disciplines at the National Museum of Natural History.<br><br><p>The National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) is located on the National  Mall in the heart of Washington DC. The program runs from May 29 to August 3,  2012. Students selected will receive a stipend of $5,000 and housing at a local  university. A relocation allowance may also be available.</p>
    <p>Previous research experience is not required, and we encourage applications  from ethnic minorities and members of other underrepresented groups.</p>
            <p><strong>The  program dates for NHRE 2012 are May 29 – August 
    3, 2012. To apply,  download and complete the Application form linked 
    below and follow its  instructions. Applicants must arrange for two 
    letters of recommendation  to be sent directly to <a href="mailto:NHRE@si.edu">NHRE@si.edu</a>,  along with copies of all college transcripts; unofficial electronic versions of  transcripts are acceptable.</strong></p>
            <p><em>All application materials must be received by  February 1, 2012.</em><br>
    <em>Applicants will be notified of their status via email by April 2.</em></p>

    <p>The Summer Medical and Research Training Program is for undergraduate
     students who are interested in exploring a career in scientific 
    research. We encourage Ph.D.-oriented candidates to apply. Up to 80 
    students are recruited for the SMART Program from across the nation. The
     program offers:</p>

    <div class="html-content">The program offers a unique opportunity for pre-doctoral students preparing for careers in the biomedical sciences, medicine, and pharmacy to gain biomedical and oncology research experience. Students participate in basic or clinical oncology research, research and clinical conferences, and a core lecture series designed specifically for them. All participants make a PowerPoint presentation on their research project and submit a report on their research project written in the style of a journal in which their faculty mentor publishes.</div>

We provide a generous stipend, round-trip travel, and housing to those accepted. Supported by peer-reviewed NIH grants and other extramural organizations, SRIP exposes a diverse group of students to current biomedical research. SRIP alumni have had great success at starting their research careers and many have enrolled in our graduate programs at UVA.<br><br><br></span></div>

<Title>iSchool Inclusion Institute at UPitt</Title>
<Tagline>multidisciplinary summer program for information science</Tagline>

    <span>The iSchool Inclusion Institute (i3) is offered to address a critical problem within the information sciences: a lack of diversity among its students and faculty. To foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and collaboration across disciplines, the information schools (iSchools) must actively recruit and develop students and faculty from underrepresented segments of the population. The iSchools need a diverse group of future leaders to take on the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. i3 is committed to developing those leaders. </span><br><br><span>Each year, approximately 20 undergraduate students from across the country are selected to become i3 Scholars. Those students undertake a year-long experience which prepares them for graduate study in the information sciences and ultimately a rewarding career that matches their interests. The i3 program includes three core components: </span><br><ul>
    <li>Four-Week Introductory Institute</li>
    <li>Team Research Project</li>
    <li>Two-Week Concluding Institute</li>
    </ul>
