The National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, hosts a world-class research staff and unparalleled scientific research collections. Natural History Research Experience (NHRE) summer internships pair undergraduates with members of the Natural History research and collections staff, providing a hands-on introduction to scientific research. Here is an opportunity for students to engage in an original research project with a scientific mentor from one or more of the scholarly disciplines at the National Museum of Natural History.

The National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) is located on the National Mall in the heart of Washington DC. The program runs from May 29 to August 3, 2012. Students selected will receive a stipend of $5,000 and housing at a local university. A relocation allowance may also be available.

Previous research experience is not required, and we encourage applications from ethnic minorities and members of other underrepresented groups.

The program dates for NHRE 2012 are May 29 – August 3, 2012. To apply, download and complete the Application form linked below and follow its instructions. Applicants must arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to NHRE@si.edu, along with copies of all college transcripts; unofficial electronic versions of transcripts are acceptable.

All application materials must be received by February 1, 2012.
Applicants will be notified of their status via email by April 2.

21st Annual University of Virginia Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP)

Ten week summer research internships are available for qualified undergraduates considering a career in biomedical research. We provide a generous stipend, round-trip travel, and housing to those accepted. Supported by peer-reviewed NIH grants and other extramural organizations, SRIP exposes a diverse group of students to current biomedical research. SRIP alumni have had great success at starting their research careers and many have enrolled in our graduate programs at UVA.

PROGRAM                                                                                                               

The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) is a 10-week

paid summer internship with opportunities in the US

Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy, for women

and minority students who are currently enrolled in Science,

Technology (IT), Engineering, and Math majors at an

accredited college or university.



MLEF MISSION

Provide opportunities for educational advancement and

career development through an award winning internship

program for women and minority students in Science,

Technology (IT), Engineering and Math.



ELIGIBILITY

 Applicants must be a US citizen

 Undergraduate students completing their sophomore

    year in Spring 2012 through PhD candidates

 Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above



APPLICATION

Application deadline is December 31, 2011. The start

date for the summer internship program is June 4, 2012.

To foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and collaboration across disciplines, the information schools (iSchools) must actively recruit and develop students and faculty from underrepresented segments of the population. The iSchools need a diverse group of future leaders to take on the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. i3 is committed to developing those leaders. 

Each year, approximately 20 undergraduate students from across the country are selected to become i3 Scholars. Those students undertake a year-long experience which prepares them for graduate study in the information sciences and ultimately a rewarding career that matches their interests. The i3 program includes three core components:
