    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span><span><img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXdmvPnM8pCihS31TS6k-HoQdf71DfClIt9CW5UyGfEyZwmFgM2offKwJeu07WQwaYpCieKpcJxQ9JYicnAuV8yrx66XuCnl5CjGUzD5YF4xHKvTEmpAIuiBBqBYFELXSHv9deHNeA?key=yczxP8-MBBtKlcl7DKecomyC" width="550" height="412" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></span></span></p><p><span>Applications for the Spring '25 MLE Cohort can be found </span><a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSelJyNM7NrIJZZelsggFatTeI3CPOelzp9gO4QB9c3OsdFWhA/viewform?usp=sf_link" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>HERE</span></a><span>. </span></p><p><span>In a collaboration with The Mosaic: Center for Cultural Diversity </span><span>and Campus Life, </span><span>“The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE)” </span><span>seeks to: </span></p><ul><li><p><span>Engage participants in a multicultural development and leadership learning program.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Enhance participants' understanding of their social identities, leadership identity, as well as their capacity to lead while navigating systems of power, privilege, and oppression.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Enable participants' development through authenticity, self-awareness, relationships, and capitalizing on differences. </span></p></li></ul><p><br></p><p><span>The sessions are as follows:</span></p><p><span>- Meeting #1: Tuesday, February 11th, 3pm - 4:15pm</span></p><p><span>- Meeting #2: Tuesday, February 25th,  3pm - 4:15pm</span></p><p><span>- Meeting #3: Tuesday, March 11th, 3pm - 4:15pm</span></p><p><span>- Meeting #4: Tuesday, April 1st,  3pm - 4:15pm</span></p><p><span>- Meeting #5: Tuesday, April 15th,  3pm - 4:15pm</span></p><p><span>- Meeting #6: Tuesday, April 29th,  3pm - 4:15pm</span></p><p><span>- Meeting #7 &amp; Celebration: Tuesday, May 6th,  3pm - 5pm </span></p><p><br></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>***All sessions will take place in The Commons (room location will be specified in a Google calendar invite)***</span></p><p><br></p><p><span>Participants will be exploring the concept of Authentic Leadership, Legacy Building, and Breaking Barriers of White Supremacy within Leadership. We will do this in a leadership learning cohort by: </span></p><ul><li><p><span>Enhancing participants' leader identity and leadership capacity using an identity-conscious lens and student development theories;</span></p></li><li><p><span>Increasing participants' awareness of their personal abilities, identity development, and intersections that shape their story through authenticity, self-reflection, and cultural humility;</span></p></li><li><p><span>Exploring the role they play in developing relationships while building intra/intercultural connections; </span></p></li><li><p><span>And capitalizing on their differences, specifically in relation to their racial, ethnic, national, and other salient identity social groups</span></p></li></ul><p><span> </span></p><p><span>The purpose of all MLE programs is to provide a space for students and student leaders who identify within diverse or marginalized backgrounds to discover their own capacity to lead, while also promoting a better understanding of their experiences, issues, strengths, and outcomes in navigating their own collegiate careers. We want to learn your opinions of those proposed changes. <Title>International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024 (UN)</Title>
<Tagline>Disability-inclusive leadership and participation matters</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><p>December 3 is the <a href="https://social.desa.un.org/issues/disability/events/2024-international-day-persons-with-disabilities" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities</a>, honoring the United Nation's commitment for promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities - more than 1 billion people worldwide are in this demographic, the world's largest minority. The day raises awareness of the political, economic, social and cultural aspects <span>of </span>disability <span>that </span>affects people around the world. </p><p>The theme for 2024 is: <strong>Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.</strong>  The theme <span>the important role that persons with disabilities play in creating a more inclusive and sustainable world for all. As a campus, we engage together to create a future which insists that people are not needlessly excluded due to health conditions that create substantial limitations in how people engage with the world. Currently some ways that  campus members can participate are:</div><div><br></div><div><ul><li><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/accessibility/posts/145155" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Nominating a faculty member as an accessibility champion</a> by December 11th.</li><li><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/accessibility/events/135937" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Become a UMBC disability ally/ambassador by signing up for an Accessibility Tour (next one is December 11)</a></li><li><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/accessibility/events/135616" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Supervisors training on ADA Accommodations and FMLA is being offered on December 16th</a></li><li><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/instructional-technology/events/136188" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Sign up for Instructional Tech's January 24th Ally/Course Accessibility Training</a></li><li>Volunteer for<a href="https://commencement.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"> Commencement</a> when the world comes to UMBC, and connect people with <a href="https://commencement.umbc.edu/accessibility/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">accessible seating, ASL seating, and a captioned and live-streamed event</a>.</li></ul></div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://accessibility.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UMBC's Accessibility &amp; Disability Services</a> partners with the entire campus community -departments, groups, and individuals - to overcome barriers. <a href="https://sds.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Student Disability Services</a>  is a resource for all students with disabilities. <Title>Apply for Alternative Spring Break (ASB) 2025: An Empowering Exploration of Systemic Change in Baltimore</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><h2><br></h2><div><div>Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a five-day immersive learning experience in which UMBC undergraduate and graduate students explore the systemic and human dimensions of complex social issues in Baltimore. Participants build connections with local leaders, organizations, and policy makers and develop a sophisticated understanding of available resources and challenges. The program helps participants identify pathways to long-term community engagement.<br><br><strong>This year’s ASB program will take place from Monday, March 17 – Friday, March 21, 2025. </strong>ASB participants spend much of the program in small groups (co-led by undergraduate students trained by the Center for Democracy and Civic Life) focused on exploring a specific topic in depth. ASB 2025 groups will focus on:<br><br><ul><li>Health and Patient Care Equity (co-led by Vunnathi Ankem and Natalia Cooper)</li><li>Environmental Justice and Sustainability (co-led by Bianca Canales and Tanzila Malik)</li><li>Reforming Juvenile Justice (co-led by Aanayah Trotman and Nyssa Vilchis)</li></ul><br>As part of your application, you will get to identify the topic groups that interest you most.<br><br><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/civiclife/posts/144950/1bf45/84de6f0ea9bf22edf08ca3fcb4343038/web/link?link=https%3A%2F%2Fciviclife.umbc.edu%2Flearning-engagement%2Fasb%2F" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Learn more about ASB 2025 and access the application. </a>The application is due by Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EST.<br><br>The Center for Democracy and Civic Life hosts ASB.
