The social, behavioral, and economic (SBE) sciences have a tremendous impact on quality of life. With increasingly rigorous methods and an increasingly diverse workforce, the SBE sciences are making transformative advances in many areas. At NSF, we are looking for ways to build on that progress.
With this goal in mind, the SBE Directorate is proud to announce a repositioning of some of its basic research programs, as described in this Dear Colleague Letter.
SBE is hosting a series of webinars and virtual office hours to present details about what the repositioning means for SBE research communities.

Every spring semester the Political Science Department offers opportunities to earn academic credit for internships with state legislators, judges, attorneys, and many other types of actors in politics, public policy, public administration, and law. It also offers some internship placement assistance and internship-related scholarships to qualified students. Students interested in an internship with Maryland’s state legislature or in obtaining assistance from the department with placement into a different type of internship must apply by October 24, 2019. Meanwhile, students who obtain their own internships may add one of the department’s two spring internship classes, POLI 438 or POLI 448, at any time during the registration period after obtaining the permission of the instructor. The Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) connects university-based researchers to journalists, policymakers, and other civic leaders to improve policy and strengthen democracy.
The application to join the network has three simple parts: the profile, the introductory phone call, and the short written contribution. Scholars are encouraged to complete the application in the order outlined below, however, scholars who are contacted to contribute to a specific project may complete the parts out of order.
To be eligible for Scholars Strategy Network Membership you must:
Have or be pursuing an advanced terminal degree.
Be affiliated with a university or research institution
Conduct rigorous research
Be committed to sharing your expertise with policymakers, journalists, and other civic leaders to improve policy and strengthen democracy.
