Kuali Credit Split required today, July 1st
Attention CAHSS Faculty
Effective today, July 1, 2021, we will be required to enter Credit Split information into Kuali at the proposal stage. Your proposal will error if this information is not completed correctly. These errors will prevent your proposal from being routed for approval in Kuali.
Below are links to documentation to assist you in understanding and completing Credit Split. With Credit Split we will be able to allocate credit for Business Support, Designated Research Initiative Funds (DRIF), and Academic contributions.
Please work in conjunction with your MIPAR grant administrator to determine the academic credit for you and your CoIs. Your grant administrator will input the information you. If you have any questions, please contact your MIPAR grant administrator.
Reminder: Open Door Session with Rebecca O'Brien
To introduce you to the Kuali credit split and help you with this transition, the Office of Sponsored Programs will be holding another “Open Door Session” where you can drop in and meet with Rebecca O’Brien, the Grants and Contracts Manager from OSP. She will familiarize you with the credit split, answer questions and address any concerns you may have. More sessions are planned for the upcoming academic year.
Effective July 1, 2021, Principal Investigators and co-Investigators are required to designate Credit Allocation (also called Credit Split) information in Kuali at the proposal stage. This information will be entered by the proposal aggregator. Proposals cannot be routed without the completion of credit allocation.
With Credit Split you will be able to allocate credit for Business Support, Designated Research Initiative Funds (DRIF), and Academic contributions. PIs, co-PIs and Chair(s) should work with the Kuali proposal aggregator and each other to determine the split they feel is appropriate and reasonable for everyone in every category.

New NSF PAPPG 21-1 has been Issued

The new PAPPG will be effective for proposals submitted or due on or after October 4, 2021. Significant changes include:
- A new section covering requests for reasonable and accessibility accommodations regarding the proposal process or requests for accessibility accommodations to access NSF’s electronic systems, websites and other digital content;
- A table entitled, NSF Pre-award and Post-award Disclosures Relating to the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support. This table identifies where pre- and post-award current and pending support disclosure information must be provided. Proposers and awardees may begin using this table immediately;
- Increasing the page limit for the biographical sketch from two to three pages;
- Updates to the current and pending support section of NSF proposals to require that information on objectives and overlap with other projects is provided to help NSF and reviewers assess overlap/duplication;
- Adding planning proposals and Career-Life Balance supplemental funding requests as new proposal types;
- Updates to travel proposals will require that AORs certify that prior to the proposer’s participation in the meeting for which NSF travel support is being requested, the proposer will assure that the meeting organizer has a written policy or code-of-conduct addressing harassment.
You are encouraged to review the by-chapter summary of changes provided in the Introduction section of the PAPPG.
NSF plans to conduct a webinar covering these changes. Visit the NSF policy outreach website to sign up for notifications about this and other outreach events.
While this version of the PAPPG becomes effective on October 4, 2021, in the interim, the guidelines contained in the current PAPPG (NSF 20-1) continue to apply.

ORCID! The acronym ORCID stands for
Open
Researcher &
Contributor
IDentification
. ORCID is an international, non-profit organization -- sustained by fees from member organizations -- that provides digital identifiers (termed an ORCID ID) for researchers.
An ORCID ID will notably provide and account for a record of a researchers’ professional activities. ORCID IDs are free for individuals, and participating organizations (like UMBC) around the globe can collect and use the ORCID IDs of their affiliated researchers in research administration workflows. ORCID aims to increase and expand possible connections amongst a multitude of researchers, with the hope of developing and contributing--among other numerous merits and benefits-- to potentially greater interdisciplinary cooperation and collaboration in research.
ORCID will provide a unique and personally distinct digital identifier (and ORCID ID) that you own and control (you will keep this ID even if you opt to leave UMBC). You will then be able to connect that ID with your own professional information (i.e., publications, professional affiliations, past/current/pending grants, peer review, etc.). The ID can be used to share your information with other systems, which can be particularly useful when completing required administrative information on grant proposals for a variety of extramural sponsors.
ORCID at UMBC
In March 2021, UMBC became a member of ORCID! The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) highly encourages all Principal Investigators (PIs) and Research Administrators to learn about and actively engage in ORCID at UMBC as it should provide for a greater and more accurate reflection of a researcher’s career portfolio that can be actively utilized to complete mandatory grant proposal forms and documentation.
Having this essential information in one central location should alleviate some of the administrative burdens (and potential errors) in data collection for each proposal and report, thus increasing the efficiency and timeliness in submitting some of the information for proposal review and submission. Participation in ORCID by UMBC personnel will also help to develop and firmly expand research knowledge and outreach throughout the UMBC campus as well as fostering further relationships and connectivity throughout the University System of Maryland as well.

Submit to TurnAround's Purple Poetry Book
A collection of poetry and artwork for and by survivors
We're excited to share this opportunity on behalf of our off-campus partners, TurnAround.
The Purple Poetry Book is a published collection of poetry, short stories, photography, and other original artwork by survivors and for survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. What once began as a way to lift up the voices of those who have experienced violence and trauma, has evolved into an entire support system for survivors to share their experiences and inspire those around them. TurnAround’s Purple Poetry Book was first released in 2009 and is released every October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. TurnAround celebrates each year’s release with a live event where survivors can read and share their poetry in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment with music, food, and good people. In 2019 we celebrated its 10th year anniversary.
Submissions for the Purple Poetry Book open in June of each year and close at the end of August. Submissions for the 2021 book open on June 1, 2021, and closes on August 31, 2021.
Submission Guidelines:
Before submitting, please make sure your work meets the following criteria:
Written work:
Maximum of 700 words
12 point, Times New Roman font
Must be submitted as a Word, Pages, or other editable file (do not submit as a PDF)
Visual work:
Must be submitted as a PNG, GIF, or JPEG file
Size your images around 500 x 500 pixels or less at 96-150 DPI
Description of work, no more than 100 words
