    <div class="html-content"><h5><span><p><span>Applications are open for the Women's, Gender, &amp; Equity Center's undergraduate internship opportunities! </span></p><p><a href="https://forms.gle/kJLLq4qqA9m9XZVFA" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Complete the Google Form and send us your resume, cover letter, and a writing sample here.</a></p><p><span>The Women's, Gender and Equity Center offers for-credit internships for the fall semester with the potential to be considered for a paid position for the following spring semester. People on our student staff team work with us in a supportive and collaborative environment, advancing gender equity at UMBC and achieving their own personal/professional goals. </span></p><p><strong>Internship Eligibility:</strong></p><em><ul><li><span><em>Undergraduate</em> student at UMBC enrolled for Fall 2024 and intending to enroll for Spring 2025</span></li><li><span>Academic good standing (cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above; a lower GPA <em>does not disqualify applicants</em> but will require a conversation regarding academic support)</span></li><li><span>Commitment to the Women's, Gender, &amp; Equity Center's mission to advance gender equity from an intersectional feminist perspective at UMBC</span></li></ul></em><span>To be considered for a 2025-26 internship and/or staff position, please </span><span>fill out <a href="https://forms.gle/pHyhkFN8x2uNFGKf6" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">this online application</a></span><span>.     <div class="html-content"><div><span><u>***</u><strong><em><u><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/iharp/events/140081" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">repost</a></u></em></strong><u>***</u></span></div><div><u><br></u></div><h5><u>iHARP Talk Tuesday<br></u><u>April 8, 2025 | </u><u>4-5pm  | </u><u><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/iharp/events/140081/join_meeting" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Webex</a></u></h5><div><span><hr></span></div><div><strong>Dr. Eric Stokan, </strong>Director of the Center for Social Science Scholarship (<a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/iharp/events/140081/3a823/6b9525ce1a3604dd66cd016e3e82c669/web/link?link=https%3A%2F%2Fsocialscience.umbc.edu%2F" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">CS3</a>), an associate professor of political science, and an affiliate faculty in the School of Public Policy at UMBC.</div><div><br></div><div><span>Transdisciplinary Collaborations to Address Our “Wicked Problems"</span></div><div><span><strong><br></strong></span></div><div>This talk centers on building successful collaborations and partnerships to address the “wicked problems” we face within and across our communities.  From developing strategic plans aimed at mitigating flooding to building alternative energy infrastructure, overcoming our disciplinary boundaries and leveraging knowledge across our colleges, institutions, and communities is an important pathway to addressing the most pressing challenges we face today.</div><p>The Director of the Center for Social Science Scholarship (CS3), Dr. Eric Stokan, will describe and highlight the results of partnerships between CS3 and COEIT and iHarp, the Metropolitan Governance and Management Transitions (MGMT) lab at IU Bloomington, and others. The talk will reflect on the results and outcomes of these collaborations.</p><div><span>The second part of the talk will highlight opportunities for increased engagement with social scientists and humanists and supports to make this happen. Drawing on social science and public management theory, this talk will make the case that finding these points of collaboration are increasingly important and necessary for the challenges ahead.</span>.</div><div><br></div><span><hr></span><div><strong>Dr. Eric Stokan</strong> is the Director of the Center for Social Science Scholarship (<a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/iharp/events/140081/3a823/6b9525ce1a3604dd66cd016e3e82c669/web/link?link=https%3A%2F%2Fsocialscience.umbc.edu%2F" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">CS3</a>), an associate professor of political science, and an affiliate faculty in the School of Public Policy at UMBC.  He also serves as a faculty affiliate to the Center for Urban Studies at Wayne State University and is co-director and faculty affiliate to the Metropolitan Government and Management Lab (MGMT) at the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington.  Dr. Stokan’s research explores how governments balance economic growth goals with community development activities and environmental protections equitably.     <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>We are pleased to announce that </span><a href="https://saph.umbc.edu/ftfaculty/person/uk88170/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Dr. Aubrey Jackson Soller</span></a> <span>will be joining the Center for Social Science Scholarship (CS3) as our next Associate Director. Dr. Jackson Soller is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the </span><a href="https://saph.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Public Health</span></a><span>. She also holds an affiliate appointment in the </span><a href="https://gwst.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Department of Gender, Women’s, + Sexualities Studies</span></a><span>.  Recently named a 2025-2026 CAHSS Research Fellow, Dr. Jackson Soller brings a wealth of social science knowledge and administrative experience to the role.  </span></p><p><span>Together with our director, she will help coordinate the Social Sciences Forum, faculty working groups, and initiatives for undergraduate research, among other programs.  CS3 is thrilled that Dr. Jackson Soller will begin in this position this summer.    </span></p><div><span><br></span></div></span></div>

<Title>Center for Democracy and Civic Life Summer Intern Positions [PAID]</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The Center for Democracy and Civic Life is looking for undergraduate and graduate students to join our team as summer 2025 interns. Interns support the Center's programs and initiatives, working collaboratively with other members of the staff. Interns work 5-15 hours per week. All intern positions pay $15.00/hour. Internships will begin in early June 2025 and conclude in late August 2025.<br><br>The internships available for 2025-2026 are:<br><br><strong>Evaluation intern</strong> (undergraduate and graduate students): Evaluation interns support the Center for Democracy and Civic Life's assessment, evaluation, and research projects; investigate topics related to Center for Democracy and Civic Life programs; and support the Center’s contributions to national higher education initiatives.<br><br><strong>Summer orientation intern</strong> (undergraduate and graduate students): Summer orientation interns support the Center for Democracy and Civic Life’s sessions during UMBC’s <a href="https://orientation.umbc.edu/week-of-orientation/first-year-orientation-program/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">first-year orientation</a>. Interns play a central role in facilitating the sessions as well as managing session materials (e.g. counting and distributing worksheets; transporting materials across campus) and helping with set-up and clean-up.<br><br><strong>Program intern</strong> (undergraduate and graduate students): Program interns support the Center for Democracy and Civic Life in planning and preparing for summer and fall programs. Interns play a central role in preparing, ordering, and managing materials, supporting promotional efforts, and coordinating activities.<br><br>All undergraduate and graduate students with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA are invited to apply.<br><br>Use <a href="https://forms.gle/YLoTxHvHwtirtPbw5" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">this form</a> to apply to be a summer 2025 intern with the Center for Democracy and Civic Life.
