<Title>Apply for University System of Maryland Student Regent</Title>
<Tagline>Represent 160,000+ students on the system's governing board</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><span>The <a href="https://www.usmd.edu/about_usm/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">University System of Maryland</a> encompasses 12 institutions, including UMBC, and three regional higher education centers. It employs more than 16,000 faculty members and 18,000 staff members, and owns almost 1,000 buildings. Its annual operating budget is $7 billion. There are more than 160,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at its various institutions.</span><div><br></div><div>How would you like to represent all of those students as a member of the <a href="https://www.usmd.edu/regents/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Board of Regents</a>, the system's governing body?<div><br></div><div>Please take a look at this <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mqnCPNiMqkCgP6ChKD2Try1o2kEuN03u/view?usp=drive_link" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">description of the Student Regent position</a> and consider applying. Please also pass the information along to friends who may be interested. The Student Regent will serve from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027, including as the voting Student Regent in 2026-2027. <Title>Apply for Alternative Spring Break (ASB) 2025: An Empowering Exploration of Systemic Change in Baltimore</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a five-day immersive learning experience in which UMBC undergraduate and graduate students explore the systemic and human dimensions of complex social issues in Baltimore. Participants build connections with local leaders, organizations, and policy makers and develop a sophisticated understanding of available resources and challenges. The program helps participants identify pathways to long-term community engagement.<br><br><strong>This year’s ASB program will take place from Monday, March 17 – Friday, March 21, 2025. </strong>ASB participants spend much of the program in small groups (co-led by undergraduate students trained by the Center for Democracy and Civic Life) focused on exploring a specific topic in depth. ASB 2025 groups will focus on:<br><br><ul><li>Health and Patient Care Equity (co-led by Vunnathi Ankem and Natalia Cooper)</li><li>Environmental Justice and Sustainability (co-led by Bianca Canales and Tanzila Malik)</li><li>Reforming Juvenile Justice (co-led by Aanayah Trotman and Nyssa Vilchis)</li></ul><br>As part of your application, you will get to identify the topic groups that interest you most.<br><br><a href="https://civiclife.umbc.edu/learning-engagement/asb/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Learn more about ASB 2025 and access the application. </a>The application is due by Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EST. <br><br>The Center for Democracy and Civic Life hosts ASB.     <div class="html-content">UMBC’s STRiVE program has inspired hundreds of undergraduate students in the past 16 years. Now it's your turn. Spend five days building community and developing skills while exploring leadership for public purpose. You will emerge with greater clarity and confidence about the contributions you want to make to your communities, especially the UMBC community.<br><br><strong>This year’s STRiVE program will take place from Monday, January 13 – Friday, January 17, 2025.</strong> STRiVE participants will make new friends, discover their strengths and values, learn how to work more effectively in groups, envision contributions they could make at UMBC, and tackle both simulated and real leadership and social change challenges. <Title>Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month</Title>

    <div class="html-content">October is Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Awareness Month, a crucial time to raise awareness about the violence impacting students on college campuses and around the world. By fostering conversations and promoting prevention, we can create safer environments where everyone is empowered to build healthy, respectful relationships. Let's honor survivors, support those affected, and commit to ending campus violence through education, resources, and collective action.<div><br></div><div><div><strong>Tuesday, October 15th: The Clothesline Project @ Main Street in the Commons 11am - 4pm</strong></div><div><br></div><div>The Clothesline Project gives voice to the experiences of survivors, victims, families, and friends who have been affected by violence. The Women's Center will be providing materials for those who identify as survivors or victims of violence to decorate t-shirts to add to our clothesline project display. </div><div>Students, faculty, and staff have made t-shirts describing their experience with relationship violence and sexual assault. These t-shirts will be hung shoulder-to-shoulder on a clothesline for public viewing, as if the survivors are there themselves, telling us their stories.  </div></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><strong>Tuesday, October 15th: Mindfulness Workshop @ Women's Center 12pm-1pm </strong></div><div><strong>Led By RIH Counselors: Katie Bowen, LCSW-C &amp; Marie Celano, LCPC</strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div>A mindfulness workshop introduces participants to techniques that promote present-moment awareness and stress reduction through meditation, breathing exercises, and focused attention. It offers practical tools to manage stress, improve emotional well-being, and cultivate a sense of calm in everyday life.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Tuesday, October 15th:Relationship Red (&amp;Green) Flags Project @ Erickson Field 12-3pm </strong></div><div><strong>Led By: RIH Patrice Marshall, LCSW-C, and Karoline Travota </strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><div>Interactive Tabling Event featuring Red &amp; Green Flags that student will be invited to write on to give examples of warning signs of dangerous dating/relationship behaviors("Red Flags") and Healthy and effective dating/relationship behaviors("Green Flags"). After writing their ideas on the flags, students will be asked to put the flag in the ground, which will create a visual effect on campus and promote more students to participate.</div></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Wednesday, October 16th: Developing Healthy Relationships @  Women's Center 3pm-4pm </strong></div><div><strong>Led By Office of Health Promotions </strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div>The Building Healthy Relationships program empowers individuals with the skills to foster respectful, supportive, and equitable connections.
