    <div class="html-content"><div><p>As statewide primaries <a href="https://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/2022-state-primary-election-dates-and-filing-deadlines.aspx" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">continue through the summer</a>, many Americans are beginning to think about which candidates they will support in the 2022 general election.</p><p>This decision-making process is <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1467-9221.2004.00389.x" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">fraught with difficulties</a>, especially for inexperienced voters.</p><p>Voters must navigate angry, emotion-laden <a href="https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/full/10.1086/718979?casa_token=ymdmvuFxNIYAAAAA:z1z3MKSdl3idlKSTX3zDO3d4uv0aoZCJMROMCQuHPK2k2fsYRJYYC1nIiKEjWyZtkJmKxS_pLvgc" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">conversations about politics</a> when trying to sort out whom to vote for. <Title>Apply for University System of Maryland Student Regent</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>The <a href="https://www.usmd.edu/about_usm/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">University System of Maryland</a> encompasses 12 institutions, including UMBC, and three regional higher education centers. It employs more than 16,000 faculty members and 25,000 staff members, and owns almost 1,000 buildings. Its annual operating budget is more than $5 billion. There are more than 170,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at its various institutions.</span><div><br></div><div>How would you like to represent all of those students as a member of the <a href="https://www.usmd.edu/regents/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Board of Regents</a>, the system's governing body?<div><br></div><div>Please take a look at this <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Iwf8Dw9c6VGpsf3Omdf1mX3vTMUKH6JM/view?usp=sharing" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">description of the Student Regent position</a> and consider applying. Symposium <em>Prison State.</em></p><p> </p><p>This fall, the Symposium will explore the regional and pervasive impact of prison incarceration and the current debate around prison abolition. <Title>Register, Pledge, and Plan to Vote in Election 2022</Title>

    <div class="html-content">UMBC has a strong tradition of very active participation in state and national elections, with exceptional student turnout. This year, Marylanders will elect a new governor as well as new state and federal legislators. The general election will take place on November 8. <strong>You will be able to cast your vote on the UMBC campus</strong> by requesting a mail ballot and depositing the completed ballot in the dropoff box that will be located in The Commons from late September through early November.<br><br>Use these resources to prepare for Election 2022:<br><br><ul><li><strong>Register to vote in Maryland:</strong> Maryland’s voter registration deadline for the 2022 general election is October 18. <a href="https://umbc.edu/go/voterregistration" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UMBC’s voter registration portal</a> will help you take the first steps to registering to vote regardless of where you live. If you are a Maryland resident, you also can go straight to the <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/go/mdvoterregistration" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">state’s online portal</a>.</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Request a mail ballot, then vote in The Commons:</strong> Registered Maryland voters can complete an online request for a mail-in ballot <a href="https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/OnlineMailinRequest/InstructionsStep1" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">here</a>. Once you have received and completed your ballot, you can submit it by <strong>placing it in the official Board of Elections dropoff box in the lobby of The Commons (near the Campus Information Center desk)</strong>. No postage is necessary. The Board of Elections will pick up ballots placed in the box daily.</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Make a pledge to vote:</strong> Every election year, ALL IN to Vote hosts a Pledge to Vote leaderboard for university students across the country. <strong>UMBC placed #9 in the nation on the leaderboard in 2020.</strong> This year, let's reach #1! <a href="https://allintovote.org/take-the-pledge/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Take the pledge</a>, and spread the word.</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Access Maryland and out-of-state voter resources:</strong> Find the latest information, including dates for early voting and deadlines to request mailed and electronic ballots, on the UMBC Center for Democracy and Civic Life <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/go/voterregistration" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">website</a>.</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Serve as election judge:</strong> The Baltimore County Board of Elections is <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/civiclife/posts/118570" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">recruiting election judges</a> to work at polling stations during the 2022 general election.     <div class="html-content"><blockquote><div><p>The UMBC Fall Career and Internship Fair is back at the RAC on Wednesday, September 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m!<br></p><p>Over <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://app.joinhandshake.com/career_fairs/34166/student_preview?token%3DBuJpFzs_wzw6dakKcDK37Uoq_7WhW6Ux_ZzroocUGFB8bh40Q71pHg&amp;source=gmail-imap&amp;ust=1664199474000000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0bL3AnO4oqrcSZbJ3cbuKO" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">140 organizations</a> will be on campus to recruit UMBC alumni and student talent at every academic level, from first-year students to those pursuing advanced degrees.<br></p><p>We want to make you aware of this event and extend a personal invitation to stop over to connect with our employer community. <strong>Free shuttle transportation will be provided for students attending classes at Shady Grove.</strong><br></p><p>Participating organizations include Amtrak, Catalent, Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services, Central Intelligence Agency, Chesapeake Bay Foundation,Exelon Corporation, FBI, GE Appliances, JHU Applied Physics Lab, Kennedy Krieger, Lockheed Martin, McCormick and Company, Morgan Stanley, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, NSA, Northrop Grumman, PayPal, Peraton, Space Telescope Science Institute, Social Security Administration, T. Rowe Price, the Baltimore Orioles, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and Urban Teachers.<br></p><p>While the Career &amp; Internship Fair is one of our larger events, the fall recruiting season is already in full swing. A multitude of companies have already been to campus or will be visiting very shortly to meet and/or interview students, including the U.S. Department of State, Google, ExxonMobil, and Uber.<br></p><p>Be sure to activate your accounts in UMBC's new internship and job platform, <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://careers.umbc.edu/handshake/&amp;source=gmail-imap&amp;ust=1664199474000000&amp;usg=AOvVaw35iQCAirqdcIjZxmhkAqnD" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Handshake</a>.
