<Title>Apply to develop external proposals with Hanover Research</Title>

It's also a place where you're bound to make close friendships, as a result of all the time we spend together. In addition, mock trial gives you skills that are invaluable for college, grad schools, and everyday life: public speaking, problem-solving, teamwork, critical reading/writing/thinking, acting, data interpretation/analysis, and more. Students admitted to the program will work as teaching fellows (TFs) and peer mentors. They will also network with UC Berkeley data science students, attend special events, and be mentored by faculty. The DSS program welcomes undergraduate scholars from multiple disciplines, including the social sciences, looking at all aspects of data and its impact on society.</span></p><p><strong><span>Responsibilities:</span><span> </span></strong></p><ul><li><span>Scholars will work as TFs and peer mentors for undergraduate students in IS296 Foundations of Data Science. The class meets Mo/We 1-2:15 pm. The cohort of DSS scholars will meet as a group with the IS296 instructor. Scholars will be paid $15/hour for specific TF tasks, for 5-10 hours per week in Fall 2022.</span></li><li><span>Social science DSS scholars will attend at least two CS3 events in Fall 2022 and/or participate in research initiatives with social science faculty. <Title>Women's Center Fall '22 Hours, Services + Resources</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><h5><strong><u>Women's Center Fall 2022 Hours of Operation:<br><br></u></strong></h5><div><span>Beginning on the first day of classes, the Women's Center will start welcoming community members into our physical space!</span></div><div><br></div><div><span>In order to protect our collective health</span><span>, we encourage social distancing while in the lounge space, and may enforce capacity limits for larger events. In addition, we ask that community members continue to wear masks in our spaces. </span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span><strong><em>Our Fall Hours are:</em></strong></span></div><div><span><div><span><strong>Mondays through Thursdays: 11am - 5pm</strong></span></div><div><span><strong>Fridays: 11am - 4pm</strong></span></div></span></div><div><br></div><div><span>While we are physically open, the Women's Center will also continue to provide support and services virtually Monday through Friday to those who are learning and working remotely.     <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><p>Apply by October 21st for Spring '23 Internships </p><p>Apply for Legal Internships: <a href="https://politicalscience.umbc.edu/legal-internship-program/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a></p><p>Apply for Policy Politics and Administration Internships:<a href="https://politicalscience.umbc.edu/pppa-internship-program/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"> HERE </a></p><p>Apply for Maryland General Assembly Internships: <a href="https://politicalscience.umbc.edu/mga-internship-program-2/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a></p><p>Two courses in the political science curriculum, POLI 438 (Legal Internship) and POLI 448 (Internship in Policy, Politics, and Public Administration) enable students to earn academic credit for internships. </p><p>To earn the four credits associated with POLI 438 or 448, students must:</p><ul><li>Work for at least 160 hours during the semester when the class is taken at an internship approved by the course instructor;</li><li>Concurrently enroll in and fulfill all requirements associated with the Career Center's 0-credit, tuition-free <a href="https://careers.umbc.edu/students/find/internship/earn-academic-credit/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Intern Success Practicum</a></li><li>Complete a minimal set of oral and written reflections as specified in course syllabi.</li></ul><p>Students need permission from the course instructor to register for POLI 438 or 448. <Title>Welcome Meghna Chandrasekaran, Musa Jafri, &amp; Katelyn Morgan</Title>

    <div class="html-content">On Friday, we welcomed three new members to our staff team: Meghna Chandrasekaran ’25, Political Engagement Intern; Musa Jafri ’24, Political Engagement Intern; and Katelyn Morgan ’23, Graphic Design Intern.<br><br>Meghna (she/her) is a Sondheim Public Affairs Scholar pursuing a B.S. in biological sciences with a minor in political science. She is avidly interested in politics and civic engagement. As a political engagement intern with the Center for Democracy and Civic Life, she wishes to foster a community in which students make meaningful contributions and everyone who is eligible votes. Meghna is a member of the Maryland Youth Advisory Council and the Maryland State director for Project Next Gen, a non-profit organization focusing on student advocacy. Outside of work and school, Meghna likes to visit new places, listen to music, and watch movies with friends and family.<br><br>Musa (he/they) is majoring in political science with minors in English and music. He has been involved in diversity, equity and inclusion work at UMBC with a focus on educational policy and pedagogical practices. As a political engagement intern with the Center for Democracy and Civic Life, he hopes to continue the Center’s work of building community through storytelling and dialogue. Musa also is an Alternative Spring Break (ASB) 2023 leader with the Center. In addition, he serves as president of the Political Science Council of Majors, co-chair of the University System of Maryland’s Student Civic Leaders Committee, and the director of civic engagement with the Student Government Association. In his free time, Musa likes playing Dungeons and Dragons, composing music, and playing his bassoon.<br><br>Katelyn (she/her) is majoring in graphic design with a minor in print media. As the graphic design intern with the Center for Democracy and Civic Life, Katelyn works to engage the community by communicating the Center’s programs and philosophy through clear and fun design. She hopes to uplift all aspects of the Center and grow the UMBC community into an even more welcoming place. Katelyn also works with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a Visual and Performing Arts Grit Guide. When not working or studying, she enjoys playing the banjo and watching films.<br><br>Please join the rest of the Center for Democracy and Civic Life team in welcoming Meghna, Musa, and Katelyn.<br></div>
