The National Day of Racial Healing is part of Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation

About the national day of racial healing

The National Day of Racial Healing is a time to contemplate our shared values and create the blueprint together for #HowWeHeal from the effects of racism. Launched on Jan. 17, 2017, it is an opportunity to bring ALL people together in their common humanity and inspire collective action to create a more just and equitable world.

This annual observance is hosted by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) and was created with and builds on the work and learnings of the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) community partners. Fundamental to this day is a clear understanding that racial healing is at the core of racial equity. This day is observed every year on the Tuesday following Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Take Action

From coast to coast, communities observe the National Day of Racial Healing in unique and meaningful ways. In the weeks leading up to the day, WKKF and TRHT organizations share ideas for taking action that supports the National Day of Racial Healing. Everyone can bring racial healing into their homes, communities and institutions; ideas shared include action kits for students, parents, educators, faith & spiritual communities and within the health, business and philanthropy sectors.

2022

The sixth annual National Day of Racial Healing was observed on Jan. 18, 2022. This virtual event brought leaders together from communities across the nation, from different backgrounds and identities, to build relationships and work toward transformation. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation recognizes that racial healing can only happen when we create spaces to acknowledge truths and collaborate to create meaningful change.

This work can’t happen in one day – watch the virtual event here, then visit the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Facebook page to continue the conversation and share your story using the #HowWeHeal. Click here for resources to continue learning about racial healing, transformation and equity.
