2024 UMBC Suits You: Professional Clothing Drive Donate professional clothing for students!

The Career Center is collecting new and gently used professional clothing for "UMBC Suits You" as part of Career Month:

We are asking staff, faculty, alumni, and affiliates to donate new and gently used professional attire at collection bins around campus from February 19th - March 1st. Students will have the opportunity to learn about dressing professionally and then be able to select one free outfit to use for job interviews, career fairs, networking opportunities and much more. 

Starting February 19th, professional clothing can be dropped off at the following on-campus locations:

Items that will be accepted: Pant suits, skirt suits, dress pants, dresses, skirts, blazers, shell tops, button-up shirts, blouses, ties, and dress belts.

Items that will NOT be accepted: Jewelry, handbags, shoes, and general accessories.

All items should be in good condition, and appropriate for interaction with potential employers and professional contacts. Please be selective! Clothing that is in poor condition, stained, or out of style won't help our students make a good first impression. All clothing will be professionally cleaned before being offered to students.

Clothing donations will be used to benefit UMBC students and will not be considered gifts-in-kind or donations to UMBC. Clothing donations are not tax deductible. Any leftover clothing will be donated to local nonprofits. Special thanks to T. Rowe Price for partnering with us on this endeavor.

Student Affairs is excited to offer the UMBC community a 1-day skills-based training course designed to teach participants how to:

**recognize signs of mental health or substance use disorders.

**identify community resources.

**link people in crisis to the proper resources.

The course will consist of a 2-hour self-paced introduction course online, followed by a 6-hour virtual skills session with Mental Health First Aid instructors. You will learn a 5-step action plan and practice applying it throughout the skills section of the course.

Space is limited! You must register NO LATER than one week prior to the date of the training.

Nomination Information & Deadline: The LEAP nomination process is both a self-selected process and supervisor/leader nominated program. Interested individuals must obtain their supervisor's support to attend the program and full session participation is required. Leaders interested in nominating individuals in their units should have a conversation with their employee/s to ensure their interest and commitment prior to application. We invite you to explore the program, gain your supervisor's support, and submit your application by the application deadline of January 31, 2024!

As the weather (slightly) cools and the end of the semester draws near, we want to encourage our campus communicators to keep inclusive text and imagery in mind when crafting end-of-year messages and greetings.

UMBC is a community of people of all backgrounds who practice a variety of religious traditions, and those who practice none. In producing content for broad audiences, content creators should show respect and recognition of this fact by avoiding language or imagery that centers on one religion, assumes shared religious-cultural experiences (or assumes religious affiliation in general), or elevates one religion over another.

As communicators we should aim to honor our community members' religious traditions, encourage folks to share them if they'd like, and learn about their experiences while still maintaining inclusive communications.
