Limited Solicitation: NSF Innovations in Graduate Education Internal Proposal Deadline: Friday, October 6, 2017 Dear Colleagues,

This is a call for internal one-page proposals for participation in NSF's limited solicitation for their Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) Program.

UMBC is allowed to participate in up to two proposals. "Participation includes serving as a lead organization on a non-collaborative proposal or as a lead organization, non-lead organization, or subawardee on a collaborative proposal."

If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity, please provide a one page description of your proposal and your team to limited-submission@umbc.edu by Friday, October 6th (one week from today).
  
The short notice is (in part) because the IGE program is new solicitation which was not competed as such previously. The IGE program was recently a track within the NRT program, which itself was a reworking of the longstanding IGERT program.

Internal Proposal Deadline: Oct. 11. Dear Colleagues,

Each year, UMBC may submit up to three Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) proposals to the National Science Foundation. UMBC has a strong record of success with this award mechanism.

I'm writing to make sure you are aware of the upcoming workshop to discuss the characteristics of a successful MRI proposal. We'll review both the internal (UMBC) selection process and the NSF process. Please note the following: 
  • White papers are due Wednesday, October 11, 2017 to limited-submission@umbc.edu as detailed here.
  • Please RSVP if you will come to the September 29nd workshop. 
  • Final proposals from UMBC's nominees are due to NSF by January 10, 2018. 
  • Proposals must be for a single piece of research equipment. 
  • UMBC must provide a 30% match and white papers will be prioritized in part based on any commitments made by campus units willing to provide matching funds.

Dear Colleagues,

Tenure track and research faculty are invited to submit applications for internal funding to support undergraduate research assistants for the current academic year. This program - the UMBC Supplement for Undergraduate Research Experiences (SURE) - is one of several internal funding opportunities currently posted at http://research.umbc.edu/internal-funding-opportunities.

In previous years, the SURE program has been known as the UMBC Undergraduate Research Assistantship Support (URAS) program. For the SURE program, faculty are the applicants, and supported students must be in their first four semesters at UMBC. In the complementary Undergraduate Research Award (URA) program, students are the applicants and more students are eligible. I encourage you to pursue both opportunities with different students.

SURE applications are due on Monday, September 25th. Award maximums are $1,500 and the only allowable expense is the student's hourly wage. Please let me know if you have any questions.
