<Title>What is an Academic Alert?</Title>
<Tagline>If you get one, seek support!</Tagline>

<div class="html-content"><div>Hi Retrievers!</div><div><br></div><div>The First Year Intervention Program, or alerts program, is one of the many services that we offer to UMBC students. Professors send alerts to let students know that they are in danger of receiving a D or F in their courses. From now through March 25th, you might receive an alert in myUMBC. If you receive an alert, here's what to do next.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>1. Contact your professor. </strong>The first thing you should do is to contact your professor to figure out what your exact grade is and what you can do about it. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>2. Visit the online Action Resource Center. </strong>The Action Resource Center is an online hub of resources. Please take some time to review the many services at UMBC that are here to help you be successful.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>3. Make an action plan for success. </strong><span>Now that you understand where you stand in your course and what resources are available to you, make a plan for being successful in the semester. The plan could include many different things, like making a study schedule, attending tutoring, or going to office hours. Each student is different, so you have to find out what will work for you.</span></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div>So remember, if you get an alert, take action! Talk to your professor, seek out resources, and make a plan for success.</div></div>

In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer so I’m also a member of the intramural soccer team.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Why did you get involved with the Academic Success Center?</strong></div><div>I was recommended by the professor to be a resource. I felt that I was social and relatable since I struggled a little bit in the beginning of the course. Because I sought out that help from my professor, I was able to do better.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Why do you love your job?</strong></div><div>I enjoy that high of working with people and collaboration, improving their confidence in their subject. Seeing that before and after is motivating!</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Ideal pizza and why?</strong></div><div>It’s gotta be spicy, for sure! It can be breakfast pizza, with eggs and cheese. It has to have hot sauce on it and it has to have extra jalapenos. You can even swap out the marinara sauce with hot sauce, and I will eat it!</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Thanks, Ryan for letting us get to know you! </strong></div><div>Find Ryan in the Math and Science Tutoring Center or book an appointment with him today!</div></div>
