Up to $8000 to fund study/intern abroad for Pell recipients!
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides scholarships of up to $8000 to UMBC students receiving a Pell Grant to study or intern abroad in approved education abroad programs. The application deadline for students interested in studying abroad during January term 2025, Spring 2025, Maymester 2025, Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and academic year 2025-2026 programs is Thursday, October 10, 2024.

The CAHSS Dean's Scholarship for Education Abroad is Open!
Apply Now for Winter, Spring, and Summer 2025 Programs!
The application for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) Dean's Scholarship for Study Abroad for Winter 2025, Spring 2025 and Summer 2025 programs is now open!
The Dean's Office of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) has pledged $100,000 annually for the next four years, totaling $400,000, to support study abroad scholarships. This scholarship program is specifically geared towards students who, due to financial circumstances, may not consider study abroad as a viable financial possibility.
Awards typically range from $2,500-$5,000 to help offset costs associated with studying abroad.
Applications are due on
September 10, 2024. You can find the scholarship application on UMBC's Scholarship Retriever at <
https://scholarships.umbc.edu>
Applicants:
- must be degree-seeking UMBC undergraduate or graduate students;
- must have at least one major in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences;
- must meet all eligibility criteria to participate in UMBC study abroad programs.

Preference will be given to students:
- applying for a UMBC faculty-led study abroad program or bilateral tuition exchange program or a UMBC ISEP program.
- who might not otherwise study abroad
- demonstrating financial need by means of a submitted FAFSA form or a narrative that demonstrates financial need not shown through a federal financial aid application.
Applications for study on the UMBC campus will not be considered.

CAHSS Global Learning Lab
CAHSS faculty are invited to apply by June 5
Attention CAHSS Faculty:
We are pleased to invite you to apply for the 2nd cohort of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) Global Learning Lab. The program is a joint initiative between the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) and the CAHSS Dean's Office to develop a faculty learning community dedicated to increasing access to global learning opportunities within CAHSS. The Global Learning Lab is a cohort-style semester-long program that will provide a framework for faculty to exchange best practices and innovative models for integrating global learning into the CAHSS curriculum over a series of four workshops. Lunch will be served at each of the workshops.
All faculty - tenured/tenure-track, lecturers, and adjuncts (minimum of six semesters) - who teach courses in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences are invited to apply. Faculty accepted into the lab must commit to attending each of the workshops below and producing one project to present at the conclusion of the lab. Faculty will receive a $1,500 professional development stipend to support their intended project upon successfully completing the Spring 2024 Global Learning Lab. The funds will be transferred to the fellow's home department upon successful completion of the Fall 2024 Global Learning Lab. Applicants must discuss their intended project with their department chairs prior to applying.

Workshop #1 - Friday, September 6 from 10 AM - 1 PM - Internationalization of the Curriculum Through Curricular Mapping will focus on identifying the ideal term(s), course(s), location(s)/partner(s) for students to participate in a global learning experience like education abroad or COIL.

Workshop #2 - Friday, October 11 from 10 AM - 1 PM - Developing a Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program will focus on building a study abroad program using best practices to support student learning and the development of skills, attitudes, and experiences that promote global and cultural competency.

Workshop #3 Friday, November 22 from 10 AM - 1 PM - Global Learning for All: Virtual Exchange will focus on how to foster opportunities to develop cultural and global competencies in an existing course through virtual exchanges known as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).

Workshop #4- Friday, December 6 from 10 AM - 1 PM - CAHSS Global Learning Lab Project Presentations will provide an opportunity for faculty in the lab to present their global engagement project (i.e. curricular mapping for their department, faculty-led study abroad proposal, or COIL course).
Important
The ideal faculty cohort will represent the diversity of CAHSS programs and a diversity of intended projects. As such, if more than one faculty from a specific department is applying, they are encouraged to speak with their colleagues to ensure their intended projects are complementary (i.e. one faculty member may propose to work on a virtual exchange/COIL and another will work on proposing a faculty-led study abroad program).
The deadline to apply for the Fall 2024 cohort is 11:59 p.m. on June 5 2024. Faculty will be notified about the status of their application by June 17 2024.
