50 Common Interview Questions
A great way to prepare for a job interview!
Right now, ELI students are mainly focused on learning English. For many of you, your English studies lead directly to the university, but for some it will be time to find a job.
Have you ever been in a job interview before? Do you know what some of the common questions are? Here are a few samples:
- Tell me about a time you made a mistake.
- Tell me how you handled a difficult situation.
- How would you deal with an angry or irate customer?
Those seem like difficult questions to answer. However, if you think about them well before the interview, you should have some great answers to give.

Summer Semester Announcement
Taking off for Eid ul-Fitr
Dear Students,
Can you believe how close we are to the end of the Spring Semester? We know most of you are focused on doing the best you can in your current classes, but we have a special announcement to make for the Summer Semester.
As you know, summer classes at the ELI begin on May 26 and end on July 17. We are aware that Eid ul-Fitr is also onJuly 17. If Muslim students wish to take this day off, we ask that you come to the front desk and fill out a special request form. Filling out this form ensures that your absence will be excused and your F-1 status will not be affected.
We have asked instructors not to schedule final exams, presentations or assignments on July 17. However, please plan to attend all summer classes until then.
Again, it is very important that you fill out the Request for Excused Absence on July 17, 2015 form at the ELI front desk as soon as possible. Students who do not complete this form will not be excused from class on July 17.

UMBC now has Bike Repair Stations
You can now repair your bicycle on campus!
Please share our new video with your friends on two wheels: UMBC has new bike repair stations! There are two already installed in the Commons Garage and Walker Garage. Admin Garage is getting one too, after construction is complete.
This video features Patrick Hixenbaugh and Alexa White and demonstrates where the stations are located and how to use the tools embedded in them.

A free multi-faith program for spiritual students
Farm the Land, Grow the Spirit
The Stony Point Center Summer Institute in New York is looking for Jewish, Christian and Muslim students, ages 19-29, who are passionate about their religion and caring for the planet. The program trains students in peace work and social activism with a focus on the environment.
Students live together, study and share their faith traditions with one another. They learn about social activism, practicing nonviolence and growing food.
The program is free. Students will have housing, transportation and food paid for by the Stony Point Center.
The program runs from June 1 - July 23, 2015. If you are not taking summer classes at the ELI, this a great opportunity for you to have a very unique summer experience which you will never forget.
