UMBC provides many resources for the campus community to best prepare for tax season and to learn about financial literacy! 


Check out these upcoming free tax preparation events with UMBC VITA, a group of trained student volunteers who prepare tax returns for free. Eligible clients earn less than $55,000 in household income. Appointments are required. Email VITA@UMBC.edu to request an appointment.

April is also Career Month at UMBC, and there will be many events taking place around financial literacy and career readiness!

Do you love UMBC? Are you looking for a way to gain valuable professional experience while sharing your Retriever pride with prospective students? Are you looking to be a part of a fun, close-knit team?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, a Student Assistant or Tour Guide position could be a good fit for you! The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation is looking for Tour Guides and Student Assistants to join our team for the summer and the 2019-2020 academic year. Check out the position descriptions below to learn more about joining our team.
Student Assistants
  • Greet and assist prospective students and family members who visit the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation
  • Job responsibilities include helping with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, mass mailings, preparing information packets, program preparation, and attending admissions events
  • Student Assistants are required to work at least 6 hours per week, attend mandatory trainings each semester and attend monthly team meetings
  • Student Assistants have great customer service and organizational skills, a passion for helping others, and knowledge about the university
Tour Guides
  • Provide guided walking tours of the UMBC campus while sharing their personal stories, experiences, and facts about UMBC with prospective students, families and campus partners
  • Attend recruitment and yield events hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation
  • Tour Guides are required to give at least two tours per week and be available for a minimum of six Saturdays throughout the semester
  • Tour Guides are required to attend mandatory trainings each semester and bi-weekly team meetings
  • Tour Guides are enthusiastic, well-spoken, and passionate about UMBC

UMBC Retriever Essentials Team is looking for a new CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA for 2019-2020!

Member Duties : The second year CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will implement the current working operation manual to continue streamlining all Retriever Essentials programming, while updating it to ensure needs are met in the most efficient way possible. They will oversee volunteer recruitment and coordination for daily operations of the food pantry, which include: donation collection, inventory, bag packing, and bag delivery. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will also be tasked with developing a fundraising plan in order to raise money to support Retriever Essentials’ proposal for a permanent pantry space on campus. They will also work to develop collaborative partnerships with departments and student groups, as well as the Retrievers Action Committee, on and off campus to provide programming and events around food justice, healthy eating on a budget, and much more. Additionally, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will create and implement a student-board to help institutionalize Retriever Essentials.

An in-person skills based course, Mental Health First Aid ® teaches participants a 5-step action plan that can be used to help those in need.
