UMBC is proud to host the 2024 America East Men's & Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th. This marks our return as hosts since 2018, and our student-athletes from Track & Field and Cross Country are thrilled to compete on home turf.

Invite family, friends, coaches, and student-athletes from all sports to come out and support our talented athletes!

Volunteers are needed to assist with setup on Friday, May 3rd, and to help run all championship events throughout the weekend. Your help and support are greatly appreciated in making this event a success!

We also want to flag that May 1st 10:00-10:50am, ITE 238 there will be the Graduate Student Panel: "Navigating Grad School as an Immigrant" hosted by the Latinx & Hispanic Graduate Student Association (us), the Black Graduate Student Organization, and the Nigerian Graduate Student Association. A few discussion topics include: 1) what are issues faced by immigrant grad students, 2) how does being an immigrant shape the grad school experience, and 3) how do we build a support system. These is not an exhaustive list, but can serve as a starting point to guide the conversation.

• Overseeing the budget and financial transactions of various committees within the GSA.
  
• Ensuring transparent and accurate record-keeping of all financial activities.
  
• Collaborating with committee heads to develop budgets and financial plans aligned with the goals of the GSA.
  
• Providing regular financial reports to the GSA executive board and members.
  
• Implementing sound financial practices and policies to safeguard the association's assets.
  

• Advocating for the interests and concerns of graduate assistants to the relevant administrative committees and decision-makers.
  
• Facilitating communication between graduate assistants and the administration to address issues related to employment, benefits, and working conditions.
  
• Organizing and leading meetings and initiatives to gather feedback from graduate assistants and address their needs.
  
• Facilitate Meet and Confer sessions.
  

• Center for Democracy and Civic Life (CDCL), Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs (OGRCA), Neighborhood Relations Group (OGRCA), external coalitions
  
• Provide communications updates on current legislation of interest to the graduate student population
  
• Promote election registration and voting among eligible UMBC students
  
• Promote UMBC graduate student political participation at the local, state, and federal level.

Thank you so much to those of you that joined us yesterday for our destress meeting with pan and crochet! See the pictures attached below. 

Our next major event will be Immigrant Recognition Day! LHFA and AAAFSC are co-organizing "UMBC Immigrant Recognition Day" again this year with student groups on campus (HLSU, SACNAS, etc.). The event is already scheduled for May 1st and will be a collaboration of faculty, staff, undergraduate, and graduate student organizations.

We believe that this panel is key to furthering the mission of the event to recognize those who have immigrated, their journey, and countless contributions to their community, UMBC, and all spaces they are a part of.

1. Financial Officer

Responsibilities: 

-Submitting allocation request and reimbursement forms

-Organizing fundraising events and initiatives 

-Purchasing any items needed for meetings

-Ensuring proper communication with the Graduate Student Association (GSA)

2. Events Coordinator

Responsibilities: 

-Responsible for planning both social and general meeting events 

-Booking rooms for events on 25Live platform 

-Scheduling meetings

-Sending calendar invites
