    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>The Albin O. Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery is pleased to announce that we will fully reopen to all UMBC and community users effective August 16, 2021. Between August 16 and 29, we will operate on our summer schedule:</span></p>
    <p><span>Monday-Friday     </span><span>9:00 am to 5:00 pm</span></p>
    <p><span>Saturday     </span><span>Closed</span></p>
    <p><span>Sunday     1</span><span>2:00pm to 5:00 pm</span></p>
    <p><span>(Note:  We will be closed for our annual Staff Development Day on Tuesday, August 24.)</span></p>
    <p><span>All seven floors of the Library will be open and appointments are not required. Card swipe will no longer be required to enter the library building. The Retriever Learning Center (RLC) will be open the same hours as the library. 24-hour study in the RLC will resume for the fall semester on August 30. Entrance to the RLC requires a valid UMBC ID card.</span></p>
    <p><span>Per UMBC policy, all users and staff are required to wear a face covering over the nose and mouth while in the library building. We have removed furniture throughout the building and reduced capacity in our former group study spaces to encourage social distancing. Please help us maintain a safe space for all users and staff.</span></p>
    <p><span>Contactless pickup of books, media, laptops, and audiovisual equipment will continue by appointment until August 29. Visit </span><a href="https://library.umbc.edu/curbside-pickup.php" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>https://library.umbc.edu/curbside-pickup.php</span></a><span> for more information. You may also browse the stacks for books, periodicals, or media items, but we encourage you to take advantage of our pickup and document delivery services.</span></p>
    <p><span>The Special Collections Reading Room will open by appointment. Visit </span><a href="https://library.umbc.edu/speccoll/index.php" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>https://library.umbc.edu/speccoll/index.php</span></a><span> for more information or to schedule an appointment.</span></p>
    <p><span>Users are asked to consume all food and drink outside of the library during this time. Food services at Einstein’s Bagels are currently not available, and café tables and chairs have been removed from the Atrium.</span></p>
    <p><span>The Academic Success Center (tutoring center) and Technology Service Center (Division of Information Technology help desk) are not returning to in-person services in the Library at this time. Announcements of their fall semester services and hours will be available soon.</span></p>

<Title>An Award-Winning Staff!</Title>
<Tagline>Two big award winners at the AOK Library &amp; Gallery!</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content">The Albin O. Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery proudly announces campus awards for two of our talented staff this semester!<div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Lindsey Loeper</strong>, Librarian III and Reference &amp; Instruction Archivist in our Special Collections division, received the UMBC Provost's Library Faculty Award. This award, founded in 2019, is given every two years to a member of the library faculty who exemplifies excellence in librarianship, research and publication, and service to the UMBC community and information professions. Ms. Loeper is a UMBC graduate (BA, American Studies, 2004) and joined Special Collections in 2007. Her nomination singled out Ms. Loeper's "effective leadership skills, extensive service contributions, and impressive record of scholarship and creativity," as well as her "outstanding and innovative work in teaching, and collaborative and collegial working manner."</div>

    <strong>Kathy Chetelat</strong>, Library Services Supervisor for Interlibrary Loan, received the 2020-2021 Karen L. Wensch Endowment Award for Outstanding Exempt Staff. Among other criteria, the award recognizes a staff member who displays "extraordinary dedication to the fulfillment of the campus goals and mission." Ms. Chetelat joined the Library &amp; Gallery in 2006, and has been a supervisor in Interlibrary Loan since 2018. Her nomination called attention to skill as a customer-serviced focused manager who is regularly praised by Interlibrary Loan users as "unfailingly professional, friendly, helpful, and thorough." She was honored at the Presidential Faculty &amp; Staff Awards ceremony on April 7, 2021.</div>

<Title>PolicyMap now available to UMBC</Title>
<Tagline>Mapmaking and data analysis in one package</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content">UMBC now has a subscription to PolicyMap, a GIS tool that allows users to create maps, tables, and reports from a variety of datasets ranging from demographics, income, health, education, more. Maps can be created as single sheets or with multiple layers from the zip code / block level to worldwide.<div><br></div>
    <div>Users can create individual accounts to save, share, and print work. A suite of <a href="https://umbc-policymap-com.proxy-bc.researchport.umd.edu/support/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">tutorials </a>is available to help both new and experienced users work with the tool effectively.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Feedback is appreciated and any problems should be reported promptly to Library staff. </div>

<Title>Finals Challenge 2020</Title>
<Tagline>Get ready for finals and enter to win a prize!</Tagline>

    <div>For the end of the semester, AOK Library has put together a Finals Challenge! </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>From now through December 15, do <strong>five </strong>of the activities listed below and take a picture--either while you complete it or of your finished product. Post the photos on social media and tag the library (on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/aoklibrary" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Facebook</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/umbclibrary" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Twitter</a>, or <a href="https://www.instagram.com/umbclibrary/?hl=en" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Instagram</a>). You can post all of them together or separately--just make sure they’re posted by the end of the day on December 15th and that we’re tagged in all of them. </div>

    <div>If you do more than five activities, you’ll get an extra entry in the prize drawing for a gift from the bookstore! Winners will be announced December 16. </div>

<Title>Curbside Library Service is on the move!</Title>

    <span>Cold weather is coming, and the Albin O. Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery's popular curbside pickup service for books and equipment is moving indoors! </span><div><br></div>
    </div>
    <div>Beginning <strong>November 1</strong>, Library staff will be happy to serve you at the main entrance to the Library building. During advertised <a href="https://library.umbc.edu/curbside-pickup.php" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">curbside hours</a>, the left-side front exterior door will be unlocked. Just look for the "curbside" signs, call us at 410-455-2354 when you arrive, and you will find your requested materials on a table inside the vestibule. Grab your stuff and away you go!</div>

    <div>The Library &amp; Gallery, including the Atrium and Retriever Learning Center, remain closed to users for the fall semester for the safety of our staff and users.<div><br></div>

    <div>The INSPEC content is the same as before; on this new platform you now have the ability to search INSPEC and Compendex as separate databases or together for one result list. Access to Inspec analytics is available, as are Scopus citation counts.   </div>

<Title>Drop-off Locations for Residential Students Only</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Residential students who have a scheduled move-out time, please bring your library materials to campus.  Arrangements have been made for you to safely return USM library materials during your visit.<br>
    <br>
    There are three curb-side locations for library materials* drop-off through <strong>Friday, May 22</strong>:<br>
          - Center Road at Erickson Hall<br>
          - Poplar Road at True Grits<br>
          - Front entrance to Apartment Community Center<br>
    <br>
    *Books, DVDs, CDs &amp; DML equipment.  You are able to return books, CDs, and DVDs from all USM libraries.<br>
    <br>
    Please return laptops to the UMBC Police station, which remains open.<br>
    <br>
    You will not be charged a late fee, even if you have received an overdue or<br>
    replacement fee notice. Once the item is checked in, the fine will be<br>
    cancelled. This amnesty will be in effect for a few months.<br>
    <br>
    This message applies only to students who have scheduled a move-out time<br>
    with Residential Life.  General return of library material is not available<br>
    at this time, as we are still operating under the Governor's order to limit<br>
    non essential travel.<br>
